Hi,

Two of my friends have had run ins with Jehovah’s Witnesses (JWs) in our area recently. In one case the JWs just gave out a piece of literature on Mary, in another, after overhearing my friend pray the Lord’s prayer, they followed my friend around for a bit against their liking and kept asking them "what do you mean ‘Our Father’?

At any rate, its gotten to the point where something needs to be done. Not everyone I know (including myself) is an expert apologist, so I started to put together some material which I am going to print out and give to my fellow Catholics. I’m going to make it into a little booklet they can carry on them so the next time they run into some JWs, they can give them the booklet.

As I was putting the information together it struck me “why not enlist the help of all those smart folks on CA Forums?”.

So I threw up a wiki on my server here where you can go and help me piece together the booklet for JWs.

I want to make the best booklet possible, so if you know some good information for JWs, please edit the wiki and help me put the booklet together. Help me make the best booklet possible. We are a lot wiser as a group than as individuals.

Thanks for your help all you smart apologists. Hopefully one day I can remember all that stuff like you. 🙂

God speed with your booklet but I doubt the JW’s will read it unless you can get it published by the Watchtower. It has been my experience that they will read only what is published by the Watchtower.

Yes - There is some security issue with the link.

I have not encountered the JW’s yet though I have had liturature left at my door.

I did entertain 2 LDS missionaries a week or so ago.
The approach I took with them, and I would use the same with a JW is one of questioning the authority of the Bible - The Book that they use and rely upon. I tell them that before we can talk about what is in the Bible they have to demonstrate to me that the book they posess is, indeed, the true, complete, and unalterable word of God.
The idea is not to denegrate the Bible but rather to get them to think about the authority by which they accept the book that they hold in their hands. Obviously the Catholic Church has the history and “pedigree” behind it.

Only after it is established (even just a seed of an idea) that the Bible requires another authority and not just itself and not just their word for it, then we can begin looking at the texts about Christ establishing The Church, His authority, and discussing which Church carries Christ’s authority.

I have found that, generally, their arguments crumble before the onslaught of Biblical evidence from Christ’s own mouth. I rely primarily upon the Gospels as these are Jesus/Christ/God’s own direct words and not the words of an Apostle.

Anyway that is how I would approach the issue with anyone regardless of their faith persuasion.

Peace
James

Thank you everyone for the help.

I have corrected the link here. (the previous link was to https instead of http and it was using the self-signed SSL cert which was the “warning” you were seeing-this has been corrected).

Thanks for your (name removed by moderator)uts!

Take care
