HELP me convey to my Baptist friend that he is a Protestant!

There’s this Landmark Baptist guy that I’ve been having discussions with on MySpace. We agree on the fact that Protestantism is a heresy, yet he denies that he’s a Protestant! He claims that the Baptist community can trace its way back to Christ. Personally, I think that this is very intelligent of them to attempt to do so, but it doesn’t seem to be backed up by history. Any help would be appreciated in demonstrating that the Baptist religion didn’t exist 2000 years ago. Thanks! 👍

Well of course the Catholic Church destroyed all the evidence. :rolleyes: The best he can come up with is a list of heretical sects throughout the centuries. They all taught contradictory things to each other and what Baptists teach. It’s basically a crock, but we all knew that anyways.
 
In the final analysis it is of no (name removed by moderator)ortance whether Baptist are protestants or not. What is (name removed by moderator)ortant is that the reformation was the instrument that God used to bring the world back from the spiritual bankruptcy that the Catholic Church had lead it into while the Catholic church was on it’s quest for power and wealth.
Protestantism was responsible for the Great Awakening and a renewed spiritual awareness and vision to being lost souls to Christ.

Interesting. I thought that the reformation was the work of the great deceiver sowing tares to divide the one, holy, catholic and apostolic church–the Catholic Church.

I have never heard **any** Christian call Jesus Christ a **LIAR** . That's **exactly what you did ** when you said that the Catholic Church (the Church that Christ built on St.Peter in Matt 16:18) was spiritually bankrupt. He declared that the gates of hell **would not prevail ** against her and He gave the Church the Holy Spirit at Pentacost in Acts 2:4 confirming this. Jesus told his Catholic Church that He would be with us **Always even unto the end of the world ** Matt 28:20. Therefore, brother, one of two people **IS** a liar, either you or Christ. I think you already know my answer. ;)

The church that was started a Pentecost was the univeral church (catholic with a small “c”. The catholic church (catholic with a capital “C” did not come about for another four hundred more years.
Although we call it “Church History” not everything we see happening within the Church during the first four centuries was the true Church in action. God defines the Church as "the fullness of him who fills everything in every way. that doesn’t mean that the Church is perfect, but as long as it is founded on the Gospel the Church will move forward. Decline however, sets in as soon as the foundation of the Gospel begins to decay as it did with the Catholic Church(capital “C”.
The institution of the Catholic Church could fade away but the Church that Christ started on Penticost will be here.
Lastly Christ is not a liar and don’t YOU be calling me a liar!

My dear brother in Christ, The Catholic Church can be traced all the way back to the apostles and to Christ himself by historical legitimate documents (The Early Church Fathers) of which are recognized and are also used by Presbyterians and Lutherans etc.... We further can back up every claim made by the Catholic Church by the testimony of the Fathers and especially Biblically. We **have** this established fact on the evidence of these three witnesses: the early church fathers, non-Catholic religions, and The Holy Bible which demonstrates and defines The Catholic Church Matt 18:16. Furthermore, The institution of the Catholic Church will **never** fade away because it is Divine, because it's the Body of Christ. The members of it here on earth are sinners and are being perfected in it daily by the Body and Blood of Christ. Therefore, my brother repent and come home to **the** Church and we'll receive you with a warm smile and open arms. God bless you!!! :)
