Help me find specific version of the "Alleluia"?

At the Easter Vigil they played a version of the Alleluia that I thought was magnificent, but since then I haven’t been able to find a sound byte or lyrics or anything. I suppose I could ask the music man, but he usually is at a different Mass then the one I attend now (I try and go to the full choir at 8:30 Sunday, whereas he sings at 4:00 Saturday and 10:00 Sunday and afterwards is busy preparing the choir for the next Mass or gathering up his gear, etc.)

I imagine it’s really well known because the tune was really familiar. It was used in a Manwich commercial, and in a commercial for ‘Stars’ channels years ago. In the Manwich the lyrics they applied were “manwich, manwich, we adore thee, fun and easy and sloppy too!” or something. In the Stars commercial it was just “movies, movies, movies, movies,” over and over again.

It was beautiful and I’d really like to hear it again, but I don’t know who composed it! I think the rest of the lyrics other than “Alleluia” might be in Latin.

If anyone knows any really nice renditions of a Litany of the Saints, I’ve been aching for that too since Easter Vigil.

From the meter of the lyrics you posted, I’d guess that the tune is Beethoven’s Ode to Joy (9th Symphony). The hymn Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee is an arrangement of that. I’m not personally familiar with any hymns that use that tune that prominently feature allelulias, but googling “ode to joy alleluia” turns up a couple of candidates. Hope this helps.

I’m guessing the same that it is Hymn to Joy melody, but I’ve never heard an Alleluia set to it. Although, I have heard another hymn, usually set to the Hyfrodol tune, instead set to the Hymn of Joy:

“Alleluia! sing to Jesus! His the scepter, his the throne;
Alleluia! his the triumph, His the victory alone;
Hark! the songs of peaceful Zion Thunder like a mighty flood;
Jesus out of ev’ry nation Has redeemed us by his blood”

That’s the version my parish uses at Easter Vigil, with the patron saint of each person being received inserted into the song. It brought me to tears when I first heard it as a non-Catholic seeing what this Easter Vigil thing was like. One year later, I was one of those people being received!
