Help me prove this is New Age and Not Catholism

My friend recently started practicing Kriya yoga in Rochester, NY at the “Assisi Institute”. I have attached a URL of thier “teachings”. Can you please provide me with some literature to help dissuade him that Kriya is detrimental and contrary to his faith in Jesus.

It also doesn’t help because he goes to a church which was excommunicated “Spiritus Christi” which claims to be Catholic and is not. When I talk to him he replies “We are Catholic, just not Roman Catholic”

How do I persuade him using Bible passages and such to see the truth.

Hi, Christopher.

Sadly, though I could be wrong here, there’s not much in Scripture that you could tell your friend about their error that they may not know. Prayer, in the end, may be your only hope for them.

That said, here is an Ask an Apologist thread that asks and answers why yoga is OK for exercise, but one treads a fine line with Eastern mysticism.

The second web site’s photo of female clergy is a perfect example of why your friend’s church can **not **possibly be in communion with Rome in any way (the defining criteria for legitimately named “Catholic” churches). The Church cannot ordain female clergy because it has no authority to do so.

Wow.

Even the architecture gives it away. That is the classic Protestant “auditorium” style of church building, complete with a ‘wrap-around’ loft.

There is nothing wrong with buying an old Methodist (or whatever) church building, but they still have an organ in place, where the reredo should have been. Not sacramental architecture at all.

As far as the practice of yoga, I agree that one may discover worthwhile exercises in it, but the spirituality associated with the tradition is all wrong for Christians.

I came across a short article written last year which emphasizes this point. The very first lines are these:
I had an urge to write this article seeing how yoga is being degraded to simple flexibility training and how yoga’s popularity is being used to sell practically anything from Absolut vodka to underwear.

Yoga and Spirituality are inseparable. Yoga is an ancient teaching that helps the persistent practitioner to achieve the spiritual enlightenment. By no means it consists of a set of exercise routine only.

In my opinion the apologist at CAF is spot-on. Yoga as a spirituality focuses on the personal enhancement of the individual without the community, and without Christ. In other words it’s all “me”, “me”, “me”! ( … which is the same focus ancient gnosticism had, when it too infested the church). This kind of thinking is not appropriate for Christians.

After all he has abandon the Eucharist for the bread and wine served at his schismatic “mass”. These two elements of his Schmistic services and yoga sort of go hand and hand as he’s searching for Jesus in a very different manner then Roman Catholics do.

The trick is figuring out a way to bring him back.

Yoga is the missionary arm of the hindu faith. the exersises are a form of worrship to pagan gods. There is also a danger in doing the meditations. They can lead to all sorts of spiritual sickness, such as depresion, meglomania, schizophrania ect, and a loss of emotion. It can cause an inablity to have empathy for others and an inablity to shead tears. the exersises that open the third eye can lead to seeing sprirts and not all of them are good. I suggest the book kingdom of the occult by walter martin he covers eastern mystism in much more detail.
