I need some help refuting these teachings, Thanks!

The word hell is translated to the word "sheol " ( forgive any spelling errors please) which means “grave or pit” therefore there is no such thing as a virtual “hell”

If you want to see the devil just look in the mirror… What happened in the garden of eden was that Eve partook in her own sinful desires. She did HER will not Gods will.
Therefore there is no literal devil just us partaking of our own will against Gods will.

Thanks again for responses!

In Hebrew there are different words that are translated into hell one is “sheol” which is the realm of the dead where all souls went before the gates of heaven were opened up by Christ. Another word is “gehenna” which referred to a fiery pit that was a physical place near Jerusalem. Jesus used this word to denote the type of tormenting hell that souls go to who reject God, in the afterlife. Jesus taught this as a reality (Luke 12:5 etc.).

The devil is also clearly taught in scripture. For instance Jesus was tempted by an actual being in the desert who was Satan. In John 8:44 Jesus identifies the devil as being the deceiver and a murderer from the beginning indicating the devil’s role in deceiving Eve. Eve clearly disobeyed God and did what she wanted but she was also tempted by the serpent who is the devil as Revelation 20:2 indicates as well.

Actually, Sheol is Hebrew, and can be, but is not always, the grave.

Gehenna is the Greek version of the Valley of Hinnom, near Jerusalem. This was a place where refuse including unclaimed human bodies, was burnt. Si the connection between it and a place of fiery punishment was simple.

Another word translated as Hell is Hades, from Greek. Hades is definitely not s grave, it is a place of human afterlife. Those in Hades are conscious (Luke 16).

The terms Tartarus and “the lake of fire” are also used in Scripture as locales of punishment, and neither refers to a grave, although human beings are never mentioned as being in Tartarus.

Jesus talked more about hell than anyone in scripture. Since He will be the one to judge all people at their death, it’s imperative to pay close attention to His teaching on the afterlife.

He tells the following story

Lk 16:
19 “There was a rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. 20* And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus, full of sores, 21 who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man’s table; moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22* The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried; 23 and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes, and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy upon me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame.’ 25* But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’ 27 And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father’s house, 28 for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.’ 29* But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’ 30* And he said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if some one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ 31 He said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced if some one should rise from the dead.’”

In the afterlife, as in this life, there is memory intellect and will, fully operational, fully aware. But in the afterlife, we’re talking about existance that is forever. One needs to make sure they don’t spend forever, in Hades.
