I would suggest reading article 846 of the catechism.
It seems to me that you really haven’t learned what the Catholic Church is especially when you make the remark that Mormonism is christian. That is absolutley false.
I am a convert from anglicanism and I tell you - no matter how bad things get you cannot just pack up and leave God’s church.
Sorry that I am not being Mr. nice guy but that is the way I see it.
I hope that you eventually come to see the truth.
God bless you
Walter

mormonism is a complete lie. it’s a cult that was started by a pervert grifter in upstate ny less than 180 years ago. there is so much written about him that it shouldn’t be too difficult to find out the truth.

this is a classic book on good ole’ joe smith, and was recommended by fr. pacwa from ewtn: No man knows my history. get the facts and read up before you decide to do something as foolish as converting to mormonism.

Mariarose, we live in a spirit realm. There are two spiritual sources in our lives-God and Satan. Period. Good vs. evil. Light vs. darkness. The Spirit of God is one as God is one. It leads you always to Him. Many evil spirits also dwell on this earth. Remember that at the beginning of the book of Job, Satan approached the Heavenly Throne. He came from “roaming the earth and going up and down on it” It is known that, the closer you approach the Lord, the more strongly Satan will come against you. He knows your weaknesses and approaches you using exactly those temptations. For example, he is not sending heroin dealers to you, because he knows that will not lead you away from the faith. Neither is he sending the multitude of other temptations that you are able to resist. He knows that you are crossing the spiritual desert and so, has sent the spirit of division against you. It is precisely that spirit which is revealing the attractiveness of other faiths. Look deeper. Satan never comes at you as he is. If he did, you would flee out of revulsion. No, it’s never that easy for us. He always arrives wearing an attractive face, with a pleasing suggestion, or an idea that seems to make good sense. But he wishes only your utter destruction! He uses the spirit of division to drive a wedge between you and your faith. He does this by using all sorts of small disappointments and irritations with your Parish and its members. He knows that your are reflecting on all of these disappointments in your heart. Once he has created this environment, he moves in and starts working on real dissatisfaction. If he can lead lead you very slowly away from your faith, his attacks will increase. He wants your soul and has the span of your life to win it. As the Lord is patient, so is Satan patient. Resist him with all your mind, all your heart, all your soul and all of your strength, just as you must love the Lord in the same ways. Notice that all of the false paths he is sending you contain Christ at some level. This is precisely your weakness. He is drawing you toward those who deny the Divinity of Christ while they proclaim His name! All of them have been mislead. “Many will come in my name. Do not follow them”. The adherants of Islam as well as Mormonism are certainly devoted. Satan uses your devotion to Christ against you by leading you away from Him while he deceives you into believeing that you are moving closer to Him. Remember what our Lord told the Sadducee (who did not believe in the resurrection) “You are greatly mislead”. Turn to the Holy Spirit however you can. Beg Him to fill your soul. Release your worldy attachments and make yourself as completely vulnerable to Him as you possibly can. He is “the Advocate” whom Jesus sent to teach and strengthen the disciples after He ascended. Please search out the Charismatic Renewal in your Diocese. A few years back, I attended a “Life in the Spirit” series that they sponsor. This culminated in a Baptism in the Holy Spirit. My faith life went from lukewarm to boiling! I find that the Lord has given me a completely new ministry at precisely the point in my life where I was ready to give up on His work. If you cannot find the Charismatic Renewal, contact me and I will find them for you! The Lord is with you. Christ’s peace.

Please, Please, Please Find a Tradtional Latin Mass and see what that does for you. Even if its far to get to.

Personally, I was ever wondering about leaving the Church, but I did get very bored with it. I wasn’t ever going to Mass, nor praying. But I knew something was out there. Then I happened to stumble on this Mass, thought it was going to be Novus Ordo in latin, and everything changed for me. The beauty, the mystery, the reverence for Christ, the peacefullness of it all showed me a bit of heaven. I do attend the Novus Ordo, this is all my area has, and I am still doing good. But when I travel I do everything I can to go to the Traditional Mass.

It’s helped me so much I am now applying to Seminaries.

Ill pray for you and your family.

Is this what people do? Things get tough or rocky? They “church shop”? I’m sorry I don’t understand. I am a mother to five children, who works a full time graveyard job. And teaches CCd. You know Jesus left us this Church yet you want to leave it?

None of this makes sense.:nope:

Maybe Muslims or no maybe LDS? Come on! Are you for real?

Sometimes we suffer “The Unholy Trinity”

“Me,Myself, and I”

MariaRose what do you want? What do you want Jesus to do?

And don’t we think it is odd that this is posted in the “non-Catholic” section? By a “new” member?🤷

And really she has “tried” everything! She must be done being Catholic?:dts: Isn’t that how it works?

Wow! I have tried everything to. Guess I’m done being Catholic. Maybe I could try being Hindu for awhile? I wonder if Jesus will understand?

Let’s see. Don’t feel fellowship with other parishioners, check. Admire the devotion of Muslims to their faith, check. Have many personal issues that religion doesn’t have the answer for, check. You aren’t feeling your faith nor do you have an emotional attachment to the church, check. Life is hard, check. Other faiths are promising to solve all these problems for you, and they do their best to make you feel good about them, check.

You pray to Mary, hoping she can get you closer to Jesus, your real target. You want a personal communique with the top dog, but if you don’t get it, you’re gone.

One warning. A religion based on feeling can lead you astray. Your feelings can be manipulated. You will have ups and downs your whole life, regardless of which faith you choose. Make sure you choose the one based on truth, not feelings.

Good feelings are fine, don’t get me wrong. Just don’t let intensely variable things like emotions lead you all over the place without much thought.

Hi again Rose:

I am reading the “Interior Castle” of St. Therese of Avila. It actually looks like you are far on your way to God. You may want to read it.

Here is a small quote fromt the 'Third Mentions":

" Our Lord will make you understand them, that you may reap humility from your dryness, instead of the disquietude the devil strives to cause by it. I believe that where true humility exists, although God should never bestow consolations, yet He gives a peace and resignation which make the soul happier than are others with sensible devotion. These consolations, as you have read, are often given by the Divine Majesty to the weakest souls who, I suppose would not exchange them for the fortitude of Christians serving God in aridities: we love consolations better than the cross! Do Thou, O Lord, Who knowest all truth, so prove us that we may know ourselves. "

Hi Everyone,

I’ve been away from the forums for a few days - too busy with the kids and nice weather! I’ll try and respond to those who pm’d me. Many posters have provided me with very good advice and I thank you for your kindness.

First off, I am going to start going to the traditional mass in my area. I had always wanted to but didn’t know how my kids would handle it but we’ll give it a shot. I have gone to Catholic Charismatic masses and try to make it out to one at least every now and then.

As for some questions by posters who made references to me being somewhat of a fairweather Catholic who is “church shopping” you have misinterpreted my posting. I am not saying I’m simply tired of the Church but I am saying doubt has crept in, why, I don’t know but it has. I have read St. John of the Cross, Teresa of Avila, Imitation of Christ, St. Therese and St. Augustine for starters. I have good knowledge of apologetics. So this doubt is very troubling for me because with what I know I shouldn’t have doubt. But again, St. Therese doubted at the end of her life whether heaven existed (not that I’m comparing myself to a saint). But from some of the more cynical posts here, I wouldn’t be surprised if some people would accuse her of being a fairweather Catholic. Also, I am a regular member of this board and have been for years. I created a new name because I didn’t feel comfortable using my old name and then having all my old posts thrown at me by people looking for confrontation.

I never said I would convert to Islam. I said I admire the way I have observed them to be devout. As for the Mormon church, I am rereading my Catholic Answers study guides on conversing with Mormons to refamiliarize myself with their teachings and our Catholic defence against them. People here are saying I must not be Catholic because I called them Christians. I have read some of their resources and they called themselves Christians and I thought that was fine as they proclaimed Jesus to be saviour. As for someone throwing the pologamy thing at me, I don’t understand why that is so terrible when it was practiced by our prophets in the Old Testament. Maybe the reason behind the practice different but really I don’t know any pologymists and it’s not really a factor for me right now.

Someone mentioned praying on the scriptures and I have in the past practiced Lectio Divina but I needed a good 30 minutes for that and it’s been difficult to find that time in my day. Right now I’m saying the Apostle’s Creed when I wake up and being mindful of Christ during the day. At night I do my own informal type prayer.

Maybe since I’ve been back in the Church these past 10 years where I discovered apologetics and the Church’s history and early Church Fathers and all that good stuff, I have hit information overload as someone kind of alluded to in one of the posts. So I’m going to spend some time away from this forum and just kind of take it easy for a while.

Thank you everyone for your posts.

Well, I was born and raised a mormon, and left. This is a long post but once I got to typing I just kept going.

What you have to believe as a mormon is that there was a “great apostasy”, that a man named Joseph Smith was visited by God and Christ, as separate individuals. Mormons do not believe in the Trinity. According to Smith, God told him that all the churches in the world were wrong and that Smith got the job of restoring the true church. Mormons call this the “restoration”. Then you have to believe that Smith was later visited several times by an angel named Moroni, who told him where a set gold plates were buried in a hill in NY state that had a history of the Americas, written in a language Smith called “reformed Egyptian”. Smith claimed to dig these plates up and translate them using seer stones in a hat. That is how the Book of Mormon came to be. (Mormons official teaching is that this translation done with a divine device that was buried with the gold plates called a urim and thummim. However, there are several eyewitness accounts of Smith putting his trusty seer stones in a hat, and putting his face in the hat. Smith had used these same seer stones to charge people a fee for him to find treasure. Where, he was arrested for this behavior and run out of town on one occasion.)

Later, Smith purchased Egyptian artifacts which included a mummy and an ancient Egyptian papyrus. This was before the Rosetta stone was discovered that enabled people today to read and understand ancient Egyptian. Smith “translated” this papyrus and his “translation” is found in the mormon scripture “The Pearl of Great Price”, in a book called “The Book of Abraham”. After the Rosetta stone was discovered, this papyrus was found and translated by someone who actually did study and understand ancient Egyptian. The real translation shows that it was a funeral text. Smith’s “translation” contained an incredulous story, ie God living on a planet that is closest to a star called Kolob. It is obvious that the Book of Abraham is entirely and completely a fabrication of Smith’s imagination.

Smith continued to claim divine revelation, straight from God Himself, which is what is contained in the mormon scripture called the Doctrine & Convenants. In the D&C you find Smith’s instructions, from God, for the institution of mormon polygamy. However, Smith was practicing polygamy AND polyamory for many years before he told people of his “revelations”. These relationships included those with teenagers who were living in his house as guests or boarders. And the wives of other men (polyamory). He told several of these married women that their salvation in the afterlife depended on them marrying him. He told the fathers teens that their salvation in the afterlife would be assured by giving up their daughters to him for a polygamous marriage.I recommend a very good book re: Smith and his known 33 wives that is well referenced and researched: “In Sacred Loneliness” by Todd Compton.

I do understand feeling nothing and it sounds like you have a lot of responsibility in your life. I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that your faith is broken, and certainly wouldn’t jump to any conclusion that mormonism is going to fix that.

Also, be aware that the terminology that mormons use, and that seem familiar to you, ARE NOT THE SAME thing. Believe me, when I first started to study the Catholic Church I had to first dump everything in my head abort mormonism. Otherwise, I kept applying mormon beliefs to Catholic terminology. I would suggest that you may be doing the same thing…that is, applying Catholic beliefs to mormon terminology.

Honestly, I would recommend that before jumping into ANY religion you should study it for at least 6 months. If you have missionaries teaching you they will do everything they can to fast track you to a mormon baptism (within weeks). Slow it down. Mormon missionaries will be extremely persistent, but be aware that they are very well trained sales people and have a practiced methodology.

Good luck to you!
I know that info burn out can do a lot of things.
Dark times of the soul are important to the faith, as it forces you to give everything to God.

I will keep you, and your family, in my prayers!

Hi,

I very seldom post on the forum, but I do read it regularly. While no one can really know what you are going through, no matter how similar our experiences are. I wonder, what were you drawn to in the the Church?

We all go through our own dry periods in our own journeys and each of us have different experiences of God and what the Church represents for us. So what is it for you?

Hope pondering on this will help you rediscover your love for God and His Church.

GodlovesU

Don’t stay.

The Church is faithful and will be around forever, even if some people are not faithful.

You may have to get another perspective again and soon enough will be posting about

“help me stay with the XYZ church” on some other forum.

You will be back.

Mariarose,
It does sound to my simple eyes reading this you are more overwhelmed, rather then thinking of really leaving the Catholic Church.
My own daughter, being raised up in the Bible Belt had no problem being one of the few Catholic kids, with one Catholic Church in the whole county, but when she married and moved up North where there is a Catholic Church every few miles, and many more Catholics, she was actually very alone. She too was going parish to parish. She had 3 children in less then 4 years, she became more and more isolated.
What I’m trying to say for fellowship, maybe see if some other young Catholic moms want to get together. What started out as a group ended up being my daughter and 2 other moms as the others were like the BBQ people you metion, laughing and mocking her as she spoke of Mary and other subjects. These folks were weeded out;)
It can be informal in one of your homes, if it grows large ask if it can be added as a group for your Parish and be able to space in the Parish. As my daughter’s children grow and the oldest enters CCD this year she hopes to meet more parents.
My prayers are with you and God Bless. 🙂
