Catholicism directly breaks the 10 commandments, and other rules stated in the Bible
Catholic is idol worshipers or think like that

give me good stuff for that debate

sorry for my bad english i ask this on aaa froum i hope they will not banned me didnt know where to ask

Hi,

it would be helpful to know what sort of questions he is going to ask you, but as to the two that you have already stated:

The worshiping idols/statues question ties in to the commandment of “You shall not have other Gods besides me”. That being said, Catholics do not worship statues or pray to statues. I’ll use the common example of a statue of Mary. People do not pray to these statues or worship Mary, rather they ask for Mary’s intercession. Its the same sort of thing if I came to you and told you I was sick and asked for you to pray for me.

As to the statement that Catholicism directly breaks the 10 Commandments and other rules of the Bible it is important to understand that in order to gain a proper understanding to the best of our human ability of the Bible we must consider both the Old Testament as well as the New Testament. reading one without the other or making claims based on only one half of the book will lead to false assumptions.

That being said practicing Catholics do follow the 10 Commandments to the best of their ability. The idea that Catholicism as a religion breaks the 10 Commandments is false.

If you have examples of particular commandments he thinks Catholicism breaks we can look at those

Hope that helps some

There are some excellent Catholic books on apologetics, which are recommended if you often get into such debates (ex. if you have non-Catholic friends). Then you have CAF, a wonderful, wonderful resource 🙂

[BIBLEDRB]1 timothy 3:15[/BIBLEDRB]
First Timothy chapter 3:
What sort of men are to be admitted into the clergy. The church is the pillar of truth.

[1] A faithful saying: if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. [2] It behoveth therefore a bishop to be blameless, the husband of one wife, sober, prudent, of good behaviour, chaste, given to hospitality, a teacher, [3] Not given to wine, no striker, but modest, not quarrelsome, not covetous, but [4] One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all chastity. [5] But if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?

[2] Of one wife: The meaning is not that every bishop should have a wife (for St. Paul himself had none), but that no one should be admitted to the holy orders of bishop, priest, or deacon, who had been married more than once.

[6] Not a neophyte: lest being puffed up with pride, he fall into the judgment of the devil. [7] Moreover he must have a good testimony of them who are without: lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. [8] Deacons in like manner chaste, not double tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre: [9] Holding the mystery of faith in a pure conscience. [10] And let these also first be proved: and so let them minister, having no crime.

[6] A neophyte: That is, one lately baptized, a young convert.

[11] The women in like manner chaste, not slanderers, but sober, faithful in all things. [12] Let deacons be the husbands of one wife: who rule well their children, and their own houses. [13] For they that have ministered well, shall purchase to themselves a good degree, and much confidence in the faith which is in Christ Jesus. [14] These things I write to thee, hoping that I shall come to thee shortly. [15] But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

[15] The pillar and ground of the truth: Therefore the church of the living God can never uphold error, nor bring in corruptions, superstition, or idolatry.

[16] And evidently great is the mystery of godliness, which was manifested in the flesh, was justified in the spirit, appeared unto angels, hath been preached unto the Gentiles, is believed in the world, is taken up in glory.
Emphasis mine; Commentary by bishop Challoner in blue.
Haydock Commentary:
The pillar and ground of the truth. By the promises of Christ to direct his Church by the infallible spirit of truth; (see John xvi. 7. Mat. xxviii. 20. &c. Wi.) and therefore, the Church of the living God can never uphold error, nor bring in corruptions, superstition, or idolatry. Ch. — That the Church, the pillar and ground of truth, is to be conducted by the constant superintendence and guidance of the Holy Spirit into all truth to the consummation of days, every one whose mind is not strangely prejudiced may easily discover in various places of the inspired writings.
