I love the Lord and am a Catholic. I have a problem in that every time I begin to feel comforted by God in some way my mind brings forth children being crucified by Isis or children literally starving to death in Venezuela and everywhere and then I fear that my trust that God will be there for me in my situation sounds almost selfish. Not only is it a matter of comparing my real troubles to worse things that innocents aren’t even delivered from such as abuse of children but also how can I convince myself that it’s ok to pray for me with trust that maybe God can help my smaller problem when all I can think of is that some power of God as it relates to others who are in worse situations such as the pains of watching children dying of starvation. Frankly I feel mentally challenged almost, the holy Saints of our church got close to God an I’m sure children were being abused then too. Something in my mind doesn’t compute and would love someone who understands my dilemma to help. This has been one that’s been going on for years. Thank you

I just feel almost scared to believe God would help me when He’s letting children die. Who am I that He should help me when precious children are more worthy and they are dying painfully. This sounds way harsher in text form than how I am asking it in my heart. Thanks again.

I find you compassion very touching. It is okay to pray for your personal problems, asking for help in faith. Pray just like Jesus did; “If it be possible let this cup pass from me yet, not my will be done but Yours”. At the same time offer your sufferings with Jesus’ sufferings for His will to be done in those larger situations that you have compassion for. And then trust Him.

Hi. Well, don’t stop praying. But, it may be that God is sending you a message to add to your prayers, some way of perhaps helping those precious children that you’re concerned about. Maybe God is asking a bit more of you. Remember:

Philippians 2:13 For God is the one who, for his good purpose, works in you both to desire and to work.

PS While you’re at it, remember those two angels that God has already sent you. Those are the main two upon whom you must first lavish your love and whom you must protect.

May God continue to bless you!

I recommend the Litany of Trust.
Wonderful suggestion fin.

Here is the Litany of Trust for those unfamiliar with the prayer (I wasn’t and had to google it)

Litany of Trust
written by Sr. Faustina Maria Pia, SV

From the belief that I have to earn Your love
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear that I am unlovable
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the false security that I have what it takes
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear that trusting You will leave me more destitute
Deliver me, Jesus.
From all suspicion of Your words and promises
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the rebellion against childlike dependency on You
Deliver me, Jesus.
From refusals and reluctances in accepting Your will
Deliver me, Jesus.
From anxiety about the future
Deliver me, Jesus.
From resentment or excessive preoccupation with the past
Deliver me, Jesus.

From restless self-seeking in the present moment
Deliver me, Jesus.
From disbelief in Your love and presence
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being asked to give more than I have
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the belief that my life has no meaning or worth
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of what love demands
Deliver me, Jesus.
From discouragement
Deliver me, Jesus.

That You are continually holding me, sustaining me, loving me
Jesus, I trust in you.
That Your love goes deeper than my sins and failings, and transforms me
Jesus, I trust in you.
That not knowing what tomorrow brings is an invitation to lean on You
Jesus, I trust in you.
That you are with me in my suffering
Jesus, I trust in you.
That my suffering, united to Your own, will bear fruit in this life and the next
Jesus, I trust in you.
That You will not leave me orphan, that You are present in Your Church
Jesus, I trust in you.
That Your plan is better than anything else
Jesus, I trust in you.
That You always hear me and in Your goodness always respond to me
Jesus, I trust in you.
That You give me the grace to accept forgiveness and to forgive others
Jesus, I trust in you.
That You give me all the strength I need for what is asked
Jesus, I trust in you.
That my life is a gift
Jesus, I trust in you.
That You will teach me to trust You
Jesus, I trust in you.
That You are my Lord and my God
Jesus, I trust in you.
That I am Your beloved one
Jesus, I trust in you.

Wow such a lovely response and insight, thank you, I will reflect on this alot. I also work full time and have financial stress especially what to get my teens fir Christmas but I always remember I am blessed. It’s strange that even while knowing how blessed and grateful I am with my family and our jobs I still, I still don’t feel that inner joy only stress. I can’t explain it, but that’s another matter entirely. Thank you again so much fir your thoughtful reply.

The question is interesting, but I have the impression that the problem as I understood it was not addressed.
“If God let an innocent child starve, in all justice, why should He give me the welfare I ask? while I am a sinner?”
or
“If we treat green wood in this way, what will dry wood become?”

Yes, although the previous answers definitely alleviated my spirits, I would be interested in knowing how to combat that thought that (i.e)children are being nailed and crucified in parts of the world yet I can still with the confidence of the Holy saints still trust He will help me in my personal problems while they die in anguish. I have to be honest, I really did not like writing that because it sounds confrontatonal towards God but He knows this is the best way for me to describe the truth of how I feel. I absolutely hate feeling this way but only recently discovered this is a consistent hindrance to my faith. Thanks everyone

Whatever bad things happen on Earth, our Lord can put them right in a greater good life after death. But we should also strive to do whatever we can to alleviate any suffering.

I think one of the most powerful prayers is one of thanks. I spent some time with a man who had been homeless for five years. He said, every night when he finds somewhere to sleep, he thanks God for all the good things of the day.

My prayers start with thanking Christ for dying for me.

On the subject of wealth you might see where you stand on the global rich list, you might be surprised as to how wealthy you are.

God Moves in Mysterous ways ,
We surely don’t understand how and why things happen the way they do ,
Matthew 6:25-34 is a good read

Oh, yes, don’t worry. Just add them in your prayers, God is only directing you to other matters. That doesn’t mean he’s ignoring your prayers but he is requesting your attention. Keep praying for yourself also and it makes you feel better, add your needs towards the end of the prayer 🙂

I will say this was a huge blessing to run into tonight. I have felt blocked during prayer lately and the replies here are wonderful and must say you are not alone! Thanks for letting God use you all! Amen.

If God deals so hard with “the green wood” (children, saints and above all Jesus Christ) in my opinion it is a clear call to humility on our part, for God is just! so he can not ultimately treat an innocent harder than a culprit (“the disciple can not be better treated than the master”).
So we must accept generously all our troubles, looking at the innocent Jesus suffer, or even the images of the innocent babies that God has let die of hunger, saying thank you first to God for all the hardships we can endure at instead of complaining …

We are reminded in Scripture that we “do not know the hour” of our death. Death is the one certainty of life, and loss is its inevitable result. This statement is pure fact, a universal occurrence – it will happen to us all whether it is at birth, during childhood or in adulthood.

Hail, Holy Queen prayer ‘to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears’. As we pray this prayer, we willingly identify that our journey on Earth is a ‘vale of tears.’ Sin entered the world, and with sin, death. Original and actual sin in this word causes disharmony and death.
Wisdom 1:13-14 New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE)
13 because God did not make death, and he does not delight in the death of the living.
14 For he created all things so that they might exist; the generative forces[a] of the world are wholesome, and there is no destructive poison in them, and the dominion of Hades is not on earth.

Faith does not provide us with all the answers. When it comes to suffering, it is inevitable in a world full of sin. To love in a world full of sin, Jesus taught us, takes the form of the cross, We can unite our own suffering and that of children killed in war with that of Jesus.

Offering a mass to the chidren that have died in war or died in poverty. The Lord Jesus is calling you to prayer.

If you feel that you are having intrusive thoughts during prayer, then please pray these prayers at the begining of your prayers.

Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me; Body of Christ, save me; Blood of Christ, inebriate me; Water from the side of Christ, wash me; Passion of Christ, strengthen me; O good Jesus, hear me; within your wounds, hide me; let me never be separated from you; from the evil one, protect me; at the hour of my death, call me; and bid me to come to you; that with your saints, I may praise you forever and ever. Amen.
Prayer for a Spiritual Canopy

Dear Lord Jesus, please forgive me for all the times I have not submitted to your will in my life. Please forgive me for all my sinful actions, making agreements with the enemy, and for believing the devil’s lies. I now submit to you as my Lord, dear Jesus. Now I break every agreement that I have made with the enemy.

Lord Jesus, please send an assignment of angels to remove and bind to the abyss all demons and their devices that had access to me because I believed their lies. I now ask you to establish a hedge of protection around me, over me and under me, and seal it with your blood, Lord Jesus Christ.

I now choose to put on the full armor of God and ask that you cleanse me and seal me, body, mind, soul and spirit, with your blood, Lord Jesus Christ. Please have your angelic army bind up and remove all demons, their devices, and all their power from within this protective hedge and have them sent to the abyss.
Please have your angels destroy all demonic, occult or witchcraft assignments directed against me. Please have your angels stand guard over me and protect me from all attacks of the enemy. I thank you for establishing an impenetrable shield of protection around me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

:hugs:
I feel like that too. So I stopped praying about my own worries and pray instead for these problems my conscience or my Guardian Angel is beckoning me to pray for. We are not islands, that is so true.

Mboo, thank you. All of my prayers start with a thank you. I start my day this way. I look forward to rereading everyones response, you are all blessings to me. Thank you

HiMary, I REALLY am inspired by this. I honestly don’t often pray for myself, my prayers are 99.9 percent mainly about my children and the fear for their souls and physical protection in this evil and secular world. But this really opened my eyes in that at the moment one of these thoughts come into my mind I will pray for those suffering children too.
