Hello,

I am Amy M. And I just found my faith this summer, I was baptised as a baby, and my dad lost his faith he is an Atheist, but my mom has faith she is a Catholic, but she takes care of the elderly on Sundays. And I have a site of mortal and venial sins on it, and today when I was getting ready for church, a thought entered my mind, well it was “There is no God” I don’t know why that entered my head.:doh2: And I went to church, but I didn’t receive the Eucharist because I still need to go to confession been a few weeks since I last went. And also I didn’t want to accept the Eucharist in a state of mortal sin, sometimes I don’t receive the Eucharist until I can make it to confession, because I don’t want to take communion in a state of mortal sin. I would feel terrible if I did that! 😦 😦 And I wouldn’t feel right if I accepted the Eucharist knowing that that thought entered my mind. Can anyone tell me if this is a mortal sin I commited by having this thought enter my mind? I am thinking of confessing this at my confession this Saturday, but I also need to help with the Food Bank my Confirmation class is going to help with, I am a student and a alot of kids are in it. Can I tell my teachers that I need to go to confession? I don’t know how long the food drive with last. I hope they wouldn’t get mad at me for telling them I need to go to confession. Can someone please help me?

God Bless. Your friend, Amy:thumbsup:

Hello Amy,

God is good, he knows your heart. You must find peace in that, trust in that.

If you need to go to confession for other mortal sins, than you did good. But I don’t think I’m pretty sure that the thought you describe doesn’t qualify for a mortal sin. You need full consent for it to be a mortal sin. There are two other conditions, but someone else will have to tell you because i’m not sure about the other two. It seems to me this was just a random thought that entered your mind. It happens to all of us, even in the middle of mass, and sometimes much worse thoughts, but as long as you don’t have the three contitions for a mortal sin, you needent worry about recieving the eaucharist.

Hi Amy,

What you had was a doubt, not a sin. You stopped thinking it. You really know there is a God or you wouldn’t worry about sinning against Him by receiving Him in the Eucharist. Tell God you had a doubt and ask Him to give you a stronger faith in him.

Since it bothers you, ask the priest about it in confession. I think your teacher would give you time off to go to confession. Maybe you could call him/her ahead of time to ask about it and work out a time so you can do both. The teacher does not need to know why you want to go to confession, that is your right. Maybe you could be the first one in line at confession and then do the food bank or maybe it will be over before confession ends.

You’d have to be in rural Delaware to have such common sense, right? Great reply. For the OP: Thoughts of all kinds will occur to us, but only if we dwell upon them, nurture them, persist in them will they become sinful. This thought may be nothing more than the evil one trying to plant a seed. When such things happen, you may command him away - he is not only a liar, but a coward. Making the sign of the cross also helps, as it is truth and he cannot tolerate truth. He will keep trying, and you must keep resisting.

Remember Phillipians 4:13 “I can do everything through him who gives me strength”.

Christ’s peace be always with you.
