When trying to delay pregnancy, my wife and I use the sympto-thermal method of natural family planning. However the signals seem to reflect an impossibly-long fertile window each cycle. At least when compared to the picture painted by the NFP-classes, it seems impossibly-long.
After 5 years of charting (in between babies), a typical cycle is 30-32 days, where “Phase II Fertility” often runs from day 7-28. “Peak” usually occurs around day 24, according to both temperature and mucus readings.
That’s three long weeks.
Is anyone aware of an alternate NFP method (other than sympto-thermal) that may allow us to more accurately know when to abstain? Or is it possible that’s actually the window we need to abstain for?
(Before anyone asks: Yes, we pray about it. And, yes we know what constitutes valid reasons for delaying pregnancy. I genuinely appreciate the intentions of anyone inclined to start with those two questions. We’re really just looking for concrete, physical suggestions and advice in this thread.)
