Last night my aunt asked me to come with her to a restaurant, she said there is someone she’s going to meet. A metaphysics expert she said.
So we get there and I met the guy. Sounds like a really intelligent guy with what he speaks, the suddenly this guy show his true colors. He started telling everyone that he think names are important and that you need to change your name if you want your luck to improve (sounds like some superstisious nonsense right?). Turns out he is a name changing consultant ,he will help change your name into a better one (he claims it will make your life better). This guy also has a side that bugs me a lot. He claims he is a catholic and frequently quotes bible trivia ,etc. Keep in mind that in Indonesia, having a religious persona will give you a benefit. But this isn’t over yet, he’s inviting everyone into an MLM.
He goes on to show a book which claims to legitimately give a product as the best health supplement. The product’s name is usana and the company founder is said to have won an Albert Einstein award (which is funny considering it is an award for theoritical physics). I am so skeptical towards his very bold claims. I searched the internet to gather evidence, but it was all useless. Everyone including my aunt and my cousin which is there has already admire this guy, so they would rather trust him than me.
Then I did my blunder, which I called him a liar and that he sells a religious persona to be liked by people. This guy explodes and treaten to beat me up. Of course I backed down because it will be a social suicide to keep engaging this guy. He goes on to do some verbal insult to me
Any advice from the people in CAF? Is my aunt lost beyond help? Is prayer the only option for now? Any answers would be apreciated.

Run, run, run. Did your family not come to your defense when he exploded and threatened you?
The only credence I will give him is there are at times benefits in a name change esp. if someone has a name that is awful. Get far away from this guy. I smell the someone seeking $$.

I was out of my hometown to visit my aunt and uncle. My dad is busy working in my hometown…
My dad said, it’s better to avoid arguing with these kind of people, they will fight tooth and nails to defend their reputation, they get all their money from tricking people.
1750USD for a name change ,what a joke. (And people fall for it!!)

Same with here in Indonesia, but this guy offers name consultation service, he claims that the name he gives helps you with your luck carreer etc.
He claims such knowledge come from his metaphysical experties.

He doesn’t sound like a very good Catholic, especially as he threatened to beat you up. Respectable adults don’t go in for that kind of thing. (Can you imagine Professor Scott Hahn or Karl Keating threatening to beat up someone who disagreed with him? Ludicrous.)
Of course your aunt is not lost beyond help. Hopefully she will come to see through this character’s scams before spending money on him.
Usana products are just vitamins, and expensive ones.

Yes I understood, please pray for my aunt. Because she has been trusting this man as a “wise guy” for a long time… (Almost 20 years)

I’d stop going anywhere with family members who won’t defend you! A few years back, MLM organizations were not uncommon, and, unfortunately, most were scams. But, some people held their leaders in an almost worshipful attitude, and wouldn’t let them be criticized! But, actually threatening to beat someone up was unusual.
Please, keep praying for your aunt, but try to avoid seeing her family when they’re ‘pursuing the dream’ or whatever they call it. It’s most likely a financial cult.

The only thing I can think of is, if there is an equivalent to the BBB in your country, look up the stats on this company and provide them to your aunt. If my family stood by and allowed me to be physically threatened by a snake oil salesman, I don’t think I would be strongly tempted to chalk it up to “they’ll get just what they asked for!”

Well ,I actually failed because i went into angry outburst against this guy. Being the manipulative guy he is, he immidiately took advantage of the situation and makes me looks like an idiot.
Keep in mind that in the first place my aunt was already in this guys position because she respected this guy as a “wise man”.
Yea, thats how I screw up.
By failing to read the situation and to control my temper.
