I am in desperate need of help!

I cannot get this recurring thought out of my mind. It keep coming over and over again and I cannot seem to be able to stop.

Again and again it comes to me unbidden.

Playing in my poor tiny brain over and over is the theme to “Gilligan’s Island”.

Sing it out loud, at the top of your lungs, a couple of times. That should do the trick.

weeeelllll…IIIII’mmmm just a little nothin
my head all full of stuffin
my heart of full of pain
do dute do dute eee dute
with the thoughts you’d be thinking
you could be a nother lincoln
if you only had a brain…

Hope that helps:D

What helps me when this happens is to grab some ice cream and write a grocery list. Or look at my bills! That always snaps me out of being stuck.

Why not recite the Jesus Prayer internally, instead?

“Lord Jesus Christ, Son Of God, have mercy on me, a sinner”.

Also, if you listen to hymns, and avoid pop music, the mind will repeat those instead.

Great now we all need therapy cause we can’t get Gilligan or the Wizard of Oz out of our heads!!!😃

Paul

Sing along out loud but change the lyrics to something relevent to your life or something so goofy that it will make you laugh.I used to do this with my daughters when they were little bitty and they got a big kick out of listening to Mom being silly. To this day when ever I hear certain songs it takes me back in time to those dopey made up lyrics…and I cherish those moments and have a little giggle.

That’s a good trick, too, M.LLama. Change the lyrics to something holy.

OK sounds as if we need to re-write Gilligan’s Island. There certainly are a lot of bible stories centered around the sea.And the wizard of Oz??..with the thoughts that I was a thinkin’…Then I surely should be sinkin’… if I only hadda prayed…

I know there’s another thread about this somewhere, but I can’t find it off hand. It’s a remedy (?) a friend (?!) once suggested for getting a tune out of one’s head:

Try singing “Amazing Grace” to the tune of “Gilligan’s Island”.

It’ll either cure ya or kill ya! 😃

For us Aussies, our Australian national anthem also fits quite neatly into the tune (sad but true). With the barest bit of tweaking it can also (as I’ve just realised to my horror) be passably sung to the tune of ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ - now THERE is a horrific earworm for you!

Wow, I was actually curious enough to You Tube The Aussie Anthem…wasn’t too bad, needs to be about 2 minutes shorter though…

D… it, Now I can’t get that out of my head…

This is the song that never ends
It just goes on and on my friend
Someone started singing not knowing what it was
(and now I’m stuck since I can’t remember the rest of the song)

I know! Substitute with a song that’s equally hard to get out of your head, but more amusing! Something like “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” from Monty Python’s the Life of Brian.

When that drives you crazy, you might try to move on to TV Commercial jingles 😉
