Whenever I get a song stuck in my head (and once I had Otis Redding’s “Sittin’ On the Dock of the Bay” stuck for DAYS), all I have to do is remember this little trick:

If I sing the “Punky Brewster” theme song (yeah, obscure AND dates me), complete with humming the instrumental part, the offending original song is gone, and the “Punky Brewster” theme doesn’t ever seem to take its place.

I don’t know, man. It’s magic or something.

Yes, because I totally found several unique YouTube links to the same Rick Roll video. God as my witness, I only posted one link to Rick Roll and the rest were Billy Joel songs.:signofcross:

I think I’ll just play it safe and throw my own Billy Joel CDs into my CD player. 😃

The saddest thing about the Gilligan’s Island theme song to me is that when I was in summer school in Spain I had an Austrian roommate. One day she started singing all these lovely folk songs from her country in German, and then politely asked me to sing an American folk song.

Only thing I could think of to sing was Gilligan’s Island …😊

Thanks. I just blanked at the end. And yet I was trying to get the song stuck in my head and it didn’t work. I work in retail and we play the same CD in and out for months at a time. I worked the last two days and the songs from the CD just get so stuck. And I can’t stand any of the songs. We’ve had that particularl CD for over 4 months now and it doesn’t look like we’re getting a new one anytime soon.

Here’s the story of a lovely lady
Who was bringing up three very lovely girls
All of them had hair of gold like their mother
The youngest one in curls…

LOL! I think I’m the only one who liked that ride at Disney! ahahaha
 
Well for me it became a problem when I had one of those nighmares that my son had hopped out of the boat and was running around and hiding in the place. I had to take the ride endlessly looking for him. I told the kids, so from then on, when ever they wanted to agravate me, they’d start singing the song.

Then one day we got a Disneymania CD with the song on it. Sung by the Baha Men. After that, for what ever reason, it no longer got on my nerves… in fact, I keep that song handy to “get even” now and then.

Hi, I suffer from earworms as well and listen to my iPod all the time to something spoken, not music. I sometimes change the melody to a song that gives me peace or even slow it down. I read a lot etc., but as I was hanging out the washing I tried to really concentrate on what I was doing. It brought me great relaxation. As I was hanging it out, here’s what I did. lol: “Ok, this is a blue t shirt and now I’m hanging it out and here’s a black jumper and now that’s going on the washing line” (sample). A long time ago I learned that to relax during work try and concentrate on the task you’re doing and deliberately slow down the movements. ( I have a tendency to work too fast, so it really doesn’t make my work too slow). Maybe all earworm people are a bit stressed in their heads I don’t know, but I’m going to try this as it worked this morning when I was hanging out the washing. There are times when I can’t listen to my IPod or especially when I’m driving, so maybe I’ve found away. Hope this helps all of us ear wormers.
