I am so sorry this has happenned to your wife. God bless you both for the sacrifice that you are willing to make and best of luck.

Thank you for your responses. I spent most of the night reading posts concerning anullments and now understand why our priest told her last night that she can’t receive her First Holy Communion. I tried to explain to her this morning but she feels she didn’t do anything wrong and feels it all boils down to the fact that the church doesn’t feel she’s worthy of binding herself to Christ, something she has been so eager to do, especially during the last six months as she attended classes. She understands the importance of baptism now because of the RCIA instruction but asked me through her tears, “why should I be baptized in the Catholic church when I’m not good enough to receive Jesus?” She is hurting so badly.

Update: I have talked to our Deacon that taught the classes and have also met with my priest this morning. We have prayed and Father will meet with my wife soon to discuss this with her. I am hopeful that her fears and trouble will be put to rest as I have much hope that she will come to understand the process and remain hopeful. No fault or blame has been cast, it’s just a matter of the timing. God does things for a reason and I believe this to be the case, though we may not understand right now. I have received an anullment packet and will begin working on my testimony today.:signofcross:

Thank you for your prayers. God Bless…
 Your wife DID NOTHING WRONG! The fault belongs to you!!! No fault or blame to cast? Oh yes there is! You could have initiated annulment long before now - even when she started RCIA. You have been in denial and have not wanted to take care of this situation, and now your wife has been hurt by your lack of responsibility. I hope to God that you will sacrifice the Eucharist for as long as she is unable to receive. That would go a long way toward healing her hurt. Again, she has done NOTHING wrong!

I hope that you can get an annulment. Otherwise…well…😦

Your willingness to carry this cross will bear fruit in the lives of others–in fact, it already is by your witness on this forum. Thank you for sharing your story…
Thank you, your words are so true. There were times I wondered if Church was being too rigid with all the rules regarding the petitioning and granting of an annulment. In the end I feel the most blessed by the process. I’m thankful that I was forced (for lack of a better word) to examine why I had married and divorced all those years ago. It was painful but worthwhile.

I can at least be honest with others who must seek an annulment. I can say be prepared for there are no quick fixes with the Church. But that at the end of that process you will know more about yourself and why you desire to unite with the Catholic church. I know that my annulment took much longer than most and I’m happy that my faith requires such an intense examination.

In our parrish it’s now one of the first areas addressed during RCIA. As others have said that our Pastors and those in charge of RCIA to enlighten participants that annulment is required if there has been a prior marriage.

Thanks for reminding me that at times I can possibly help others who face annulment as the worst thing the Church can require of them. There are many blessings that come from the process.

What if you were divorced and your ex husband eventually died. Would that cause any issues in RCIA?

Marriage ends with death, so no problems there, as long as there were no other attempts at marriage.

With the moment comes the grace of the moment.
Asking about this now is out-of-sync to such a moment.

IMO.
I know what happens. The couple either separates or never receives communion. I have friends at church that never receive. They have been married, civilly, for years and have 9 grandchildren. He was married for a very short time, had no children and divorced. He was denied an annulment.

He didn’t think it right to leave his 2nd wife and their children, to go back and find and live with his first wife and her husband.

Thank all of you again for your comments and especially your prayers. My wife was Baptized and Confirmed Saturday night during one of the most beautiful and memorable ceremonies I’ve ever witnessed in the church. It was amazing to see the look of wonder and love on her face as the grace of the Holy Spirit filled her. My wife declined her FHC until I have applied for and received an answer for my petition of annulment. This was her decision and one that I don’t take lightly. I won’t give my testimony publically but I pray that whatever the eventual decision of the Tribunal it will be the will of God. To all that have given me prayers and encouragement, I thank you. For those of you that have been right to show concern about my receiving communion, I do not, but look forward to the day when I might join you in communion with our Lord, Jesus. To all those that were correct to chastise, place blame and judgement, I also thank you. I have sinned against my God and my wife…the list doesn’t end there. I have been ignorant and stubborn, prideful and looking for excuses and others to blame. Let me tell you though, since I’ve started to examine my life as I’ve started my testimony, I feel some measure of relief as I feel the Lord is cleansing me as I acknowledge and admit the wrongs I’ve committed. I finally went to confession after 36 years and I do believe in the forgiveness of sins and know that Jesus is the true path to salvation. As you all pray for me and my wife you will forever be in our prayers. Thank you again and God Bless.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful testimony. This is what is all about. The Holy Spirit is truly at work. Wonderful.

That has nothing to do with the Original Poster.

Really?
Do you know anything about the realjuliane?
A bit off-topic of you, yes?

The Original Poster gave a beautiful and affirming
response to all posters - including those who held
him accountable. Problems of this sort are created
by those who find, much later, they must solve them.

Beautiful. Thank you so much.

Thank you catharina - apparently some people on the forums have forgotten about applying for a decree of nullity.
Actually, it has everything to do with the OP.

He needs to know that if he does not receive a decree that he nor his wife will ever be allowed to receive. That is unless they live together, forever, as brother and sister.

That brings me to people I really feel for. Those that married, divorced then converted.

Have you read Post # 28 from the OP?

And you have made a very judgemental statement based on on an assumption that he will be denied which is not necessarily true and which we can have no way of knowing.

And, yet, you just know, deep in your heart that he will receive one?

No one on earth knows. Telling him that he might not receive a decree is not being judgmental, it is being honest. Telling him the ramifications of not receiving one is not being judgmental it is preparing for the worst. (while hoping for the best.)

Life is not always sunshine and roses, sometimes we do something that lasts forever.
