Help naming a baby girl

Hello!

Just found out we’re having a baby and are a bit stumped regarding baby girl names, would love to hear some suggestions 🙂

I’ve been looking at popular name websites and wasn’t too happy with the female names that seem to be in favor today. Lots of names sound plain porn star-ish, a real turn off.

I am currently considering Therese but there may be other female saints that I’m not familiar with and are equally pretty. Thanks for any advice 👍
 
Hi! I definitely feel you here. With both pregnancies (before we found out boy or girl) we tried to come up with names for both, just in case. Well, we came up with boy names real quick but couldn’t decide on girl names. So when the ultrasound techs said we were having girls, we kinda looked at each other and said, “Oh boy. Guess we have to come up with girl names.”

I spent hours poring through a book called “Baby Names From Around the World.” I thought a lot of names sounded … odd, but I found a lot of good ideas and diamonds buried in the gravel.

For girls I like:

Naomi
Sierra
Lilith (or Lillian, or Lily)
Violet
Amethyst (call her Amy)
Cicely (or Cecilia)
Sèafra (pronouced SHAY-ah-frah, means God’s Peace, shortens to “Shay”)
Gennesheyo or Genevieve (call her “Jen”)
Anupriyaa (call her “Anu”)
Miriam (nice variation on the traditional “Mary”)
Autumn
Summer
Iris

And those are just my favorites off the top of my head.

Haha, Katniss is a very strange name. Kind of sounds like catnip to me 😛

I have a small list so far and I also included Naomi to it. It really is a lovely name. I’m just trying to avoid any name with negative connotations but I guess that is difficult because there is always a questionable individual/historical figure with a nice name LOL

My uncles name is Adolph and he does get a lot of teasing for it 😃

Thanks Zenith, Erin Rose sounds very cute. My biggest trouble right now is actually matching. Who knew it would be so hard to find two names that sounded right together? 🙂

Hi Kerrir, I always did like Edith. Is Ave a female name too? I always thought of it as male for some reason, maybe I’m just clueless lol.

JimG, I did look over the 1910’s names list. It has some attractive non overly popular names, thanks!

Thanks for the congrats Credo 🙂 Winnifred is a pretty name. I like that it’s not overused. I do remember seeing a movie with a girl by that name once but I never came across it again. I don’t really want an overly popular name so that’s a good thing in my book.
 
I have a bias as this is one of my favorite saints but how about Therese? It would be a most unique name and would make a great patron for her.

Hi there my name is Theresa and the suggestion I have is Jacinta! That was one of the children’s names that the blessed mother appeared to in asking them to pray the rosary! Our Lady of Fatima
