I need advice on a letter that I am writing to my daughters catholic school. Both my girls, ages 14 and 5 are attending a catholic school where there are no uniforms. This is not about getting uniforms at the school, which I would be okay with. I actually have my five year wear them to school anyway.😃
My older daughter had attended this school in the past but we had to send her to public school because of her learning disabilities. However now the school is equipped for that now and we moved her back to the catholic school because to be honest the public schools just scare me to death. Not that ours was violent, but the sex and bad language that goes on there is just out of control.
Anyway my older daughter has learning disabilities and is being tested for autism in January. She is very literal and has a had time understanding concepts and how things look to others. My daughter is on the volleyball team. The girls are suppose to dress up for the games,(just like at public schools) and for their weekly mass. My problem lies here. Some of the girls come to school, mass and the volleyball games wearing shirts that are so short. 😦 When the girls sit down, if you are across from them you can see their underpanties. I have witnessed this on more than one occassion and have talked to several parents about it and receive the same response. They say that it’s up to the principal to address it but she won’t because the parents give the school money. It all comes down to money, unfortuanately. So I deceided to write a letter to the principal in hopes that my prayers will be heard and we can clean up the dress code and promote some form of modesty in these children and parents for that fact. Our school is small, there are only 17 students in my daughter’s eighth grade class so you can see how she is influenced by her peers at her school.

I am attaching the letter that I have written and I am hoping that you will read it and give me any advise as to the contents. Should I change it add something else to it? Any advice will be greatly appreiated.
If my efforts fall on deaf ears I do plan to contact our bishop in this manner.

Thanks and God Bless
🙂

Hi
Just to be clear, are they wearing shirts that show their tummies or lower backs/underwear when sitting etc?

Hi

The shirts that they have been wearing don’t show anything until they sit down and only if you are across from them on the other side of the gym or if they are sitting backwards on the bleachers. The girls usually have on their volleyball team shirts on and at mass their shirts are long enough to cover their waist line on their shirts. The school dress code says the shirts are to be finger length. The shirts are only finger length if they pull them clear down onto their hips. However there is no way to wear them that way all day, obviously. One of the girl’s shirts was so short when she sat down she was just a couple of inches from her bottom coming out. As women know when you sit down your shirt rides up a little in the back.

Maybe I am to sensitvie in this matter however I did not grow up catholic and I got to wear whatever I wanted and it caused a great deal of trouble when I look back. I don’t want my girls to think that they have to display their bodies to get a man, or to be fashionable. They can be fashionable without displaying everything they’ve got and they can certaining find a good man if that’s what God has in his plan for them.

Thanks for any advice if you can give me any:)

Ok, so you are not talking about shorts or skirts, but shirts, right? Is the problem that the shirts are too short (end around the waist), they are wearing their shorts too low (wearing them several inches below their belly button) or both? The area they are showing too much of is in their lower back, right?
I am having trouble figuring out what finger length shirts are. Are their shirts supposed to be as long as where your finger ends when you have your arms straight down on your sides? I have heard of using this length for shorts, but not shirts. I mean, I agree, you shouldn’t be able to see girls underwear or behinds ever, but I guess I am trying to understand what you are explaining. How can a shirt be too short if it is long enough to not know if there are shorts under it?

BTW, I think its great that you are writing the letter and willing to follow through with it, I just want to understand the situation itself since I am not sure if it is completely clear in the letter, either that or maybe I need more sleep lol.

Maybe I am not understanding but it sounds more like a problem with pants than with the shirts:confused:. If my pants fit well (like when I DON’T try to wear my normal jeans on a fat day:p) then when I sit my underwear don’t show no matter what kind of shirt I wear. It wouldn’t show even if I was shirtless.

I am so sorry I am talking about Skirts I didn’t even realize that I was typing shirts.
Sorry
