Help, Need to Get to The Mass!

I am sorry, I am not sure if this is in the Right thread/section, I am not sure where else it would go. So here is my dilema, my family is thinking of heading to NY tommroow, it is a rare oppurtunity I guess. We have to Leave Early Tommorow to get there. Thing is, Tommorow is The Lord’s Day!

I really want to Go To Mass More than I want to go to the city, but this might be the only oppurtunity to go, since my Grandparents will be leaving next week.
Is there a Sunday Vigil Mass on Saturday???
Is there Any Other Option?
 
you can go to mass on Saturday evening for your Sunday obligation,
at my church there is a 4pm mass on Saturdays, so i imagine most other church’s are the same.
 
If you don’t make it to Mass on Saturday, maybe the folks would like to tour St. Patrick’s Cathedral during Mass time…

Yep!

Likewise, we have Mass at 4 PM and 6:30 PM, and a neighboring church has Mass at 5PM every Saturday. Call the parish office. Even if nobody is in, they probably have a recorded message with the weekend Mass schedule, or, if the churches in your area have websites, you could go online and check for Mass times.

Thanks, I went online and There was A Schedule for The Mass at 5:30. Do all “Evening” Masses count for the Sunday Obligation? Or is it A Mass just for Saturday? I don’t think it said much.
 
The Saturday evening Masses are scheduled by the parishes for Sunday obligation. You weren’t asking if evening Masses on other days would count for Sunday, were you? In any case, they don’t - only the Saturday evening ones.

I think I should Have been more Specific. but Basicaly the question was is Every Evening Mass on A Saturday, a fulfillment of The Sunday Obligation? Or is it a Specific Evening Mass? Say if there is more than one?
 
I am pretty certain that all Saturday evening Masses (at and after 4 pm) count for Sunday.
 
Yes, that’s right. All Saturday Masses after 4 pm satisfy the obligation.

Just think it through with me. Would parishes schedule Saturday evening Masses (open the church, turn on the heat, get the priest, pay the organist, schedule the ushers and EMHCs and lectors and cantors, etc.) if it didn’t count for Sunday? Just to confuse people? No. 🙂

But if going to a Sunday Vigil Mass on Saturday fulfills your sunday obligation when does sunday begin? at 1200 AM? or at 5 pm satudary?
 
I believe the US bishops have set 4:00 pm on Saturday as the earliest that a Sunday Mass may be celebrated.

from the Code of Canon law …(for the eastern Churches…see their code)

Can. 1248 §1. A person who assists at a Mass celebrated anywhere in a Catholic rite either on the feast day itself or in the evening of the preceding day satisfies the obligation of participating in the Mass.

Sunday “begins” at midnight so far as the need to observe the Lords Day…

but the vigil Mass still counts for the Sunday Mass or Holy Day Mass…and there is of course Evening Prayer I for Sunday…on Sat evening…but so far as the day itself…it begins at midnight…

i.e. one is not required to ‘rest’ etc from servile work etc…on Sat evening …even if they did goto Mass that evening etc…
