Hi everyone,

This is a bit long winded, but I’m terrible at being concise 😊

I’m a convert to Catholicism and have been Catholic now for going on four years. I’ve always attended NO masses because that’s all that has been available to me and all that was taught in RCIA. I’ve been wanting to attend a Latin Mass for some time now and have been reading up on them and watching Youtube videos. Until now, the closest Latin Mass has been three hours away, but I’ve just gotten a new job that is moving me to a town with a Catholic Church that offers the Latin Mass every weekend in addition to NO masses. I’ve emailed and called to find out more details but so far have not heard back from them. (I’m not upset, I think it’s because the priests there are super busy and they have a VERY small church staff, who are not there all the time.)

I’ve looked for prior posts on this subject on this forum and couldn’t find quite what I was looking for, but then again I’m not the best at searching for things.

Can anyone give me hints, tips, information, etc… to help me out - I’m really hoping to attend this coming Sunday.

(P.S. - along with the desire to attend a LM, I’ve been wanting to receive communion on the tongue for quite some time and felt called to do so at Christmas mass this weekend, though almost no on else did… and it was amazing…it was a wonderfully spiritually moving moment 😃 and this experience renewed my eagerness to try out the LM ASAP!)

The abbreviation for the Latin Mass is TLM (Tridentine Latin Mass) or EO (Extraordinary Form). Maybe that’s why you haven’t been successful in finding previous threads when you search. There have been many threads on this precise subject. You may receive Communion on the tongue at any Mass you attend. It’s your choice.

You’ll need a missal. Perhaps the Church provides a booklet.

Thanks Jim,

I’ll change my abbreviations and research again.

Blessings to you:)

Not all Latin Masses are Tridentine or EF. We have one Sunday Mass every month sung in Latin from the 2002 edition of the Missale Romanum.

You’ll find a Novus Ordo Latin Mass sheet (Word document) at frcoulter.com/presentations/LatinMassBooklet.doc
The Latin text is correct - the English is the previous translation.

“Here is a nice, long thread on attending one’s first TLM.”

Thanks so much - just what I was looking for. 👍

HI, I’m relatively new as a convert (since 2004) so I have little experience in this. But what a wonderful opportunity, such a beautiful way of worship. I’m sure other posters will have more advice, but with the few I’ve attended, I just watched closely and marveled at the beauty of the experience. Many Catholics would love to have access to a Latin Mass. Blessings on your day.
