Help needed on this

I came back from confession. I told the priest all my sins including lying in general. But i didnt tell him a specific lie. Heres the lie (i need help in determining this is venial or mortal) me and my family are lying and saying we are going to florida for vacation so i dont have to go to school for the rest of the week. Is this mortal. Did i withhold in confession.

Get help for your scrupulosity.

Your parents should not lie to your school. I’m not sure what the point of that is.
 
If you confessed for lying in general, it basically covers it all. It seems venial, doesn’t seem so extreme to be of mortal. Dont overthink the process.
 
Well for one where putting my cat down two for an early easter vacation. Also other question. I made a resolution not to commit mortal sins again. But i wasnt going to stop this lie. Would that make my confession invalid.

Talk to the priest about scruples. If your cat is not ill, it is incredibly immoral for your parents to put it down. If it is ill, it is better to do it sooner so it does not suffer unnecearily over a holiday when you can’t get help for it.
 
If you do not know that it is a mortal sin, then in it not a mortal sin.

In other words, if you have to question whether or not a sin you committed is mortal, then you haven’t committed a mortal sin.

When you are in a state of mortal sin, there is no doubt about that fact.
 
Mrnuggles, I don’t think it would count against you if your parents are forcing you to lie. Also, couldn’t your parents just board the cat at the vet’s?
Also, for those who don’t understand, the absences would not be excused from school if it’s just an extended spring break.

Is this a sick cat that you are having euthanized or a well cat?

If it’s a well cat, I think you have some more stuff to confess if you’ve already done it.
 
Lying is wrong. Why on earth would you lie about a trip to Florida in the first place? Why would your parents do along with that?

Your pet dying is sad, but not a reason to miss school. Neither is Easter, it is not on a school day. If your parents want to take you out of school on Good Friday then they should just say so.

Really this is absurd.
 
I am sorry about your cat. It hurts to lose a beloved pet. It is fine to miss a day or two of school if you are grieving, as long as you have your parents permission. Don’t lie about why you missed, though. People usually understand. I am in my 50s and my husband and I both had to take half a week off when our dog died.

If you are an accomplice to the lie, you can confess it and all is well. If you didn’t lie but your parents did, you don’t have to confess it .

Just give me a straight answer im not going to go with it anymore was my confession valid or not
 
This is a venial sin. Your confession was valid.

Do not continue telling this lie, but you do not need to correct it if it doesn’t come up again.
