Good afternoon everyone, I have a few questions that I hope some of you may be able to answer?

For over a year I’ve been going to Mass as a non-Catholic but now I am receiving my first communion (I think on the 2nd Sunday of Advent?)

Cany anyone talk me through the process? Father said I would also go to confession.

Any help would me much appreciated ASAP.

God bless,

Andrew Ben

Are you going to the Rite of Christian Iniciation (RCIA)? RCIA is for non-catholics and for those considering Catholicism. They have classes and should give you the opportunity to have all your questions answers.

If that parish you are attending doesn’t have RCIA, you might want to look for one that does.

If you are not in RCIA, you would also need to register. There’s a process. It wasn’t clear from your post if you had gone through the process first or not. They should be able to address all your questions.

Good luck and welcome!

Your priest or whomever is instructing you will generally walk you through the process of making a Confession and also how to receive First Holy Communion.

STEPS TO A GOOD CONFESSION
Code:
1. Examine our conscience
2. Repent - Be sorry for our sins and determine not to sin again
3. Confess our sins to a priest
4. State purpose of amendment (such as an Act of Contrition)
5. Perform our penance
For receiving the Eucharist (Communion), this article may help: ewtn.com/faith/teachings/euchb2a.htm

Based on what you said, it sounds like you’ve already been validly baptized. Will you also be receiving Confirmation? Children who are receiving for the first time usually have a small ceremony involved, but I do not know whether that is the case for an adult. If not, then you will simply do as others do in your parish.

Did you have more specific questions about it?

That’s unusual. Those in RCIA normally become Catholics at Easter.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head here - thank you very much and God bless!

Just a quick update everyone, on Thursday there is a Reconciliation service where I will attend the front of the church.

If anyone can tell me what to expect I would be sincerely grateful.

Sorry but I think some of us are still confused.

Although not Catholic yet are you already validly baptised?
For example, before converting I was a baptised Methodist and my baptism was considered valid by the Catholic Church.

When did you start in RCIA?

You’re probably wondering why we seem to be close-mouthed and unhelpful regarding your question but as thistle said, we don’t know your situation. It’s not like just anyone can go to Reconciliation, there are specific conditions that need to be met. Jimmy Akin explains it well in this article. And it seems odd if you’re in the RCIA program that no one has explained it to you.

I was baptised in the Church of Scotland.

In a number of churches I have gone to people who are already baptized (in a church in which the Catholic church recognizes their baptism) are allowed to do their First Communion at a different time of year than the RCIA members. That sounds like your case. Often there is Confirmation also. It depends on this as to what you can expect to happen.

No need to be cheeky, I’m new to this.

I don’t think seagal is being cheeky. Its just that in your opening post you did not give us sufficient information to help you out.

When did you start in RCIA?
When will you become a Catholic?
Does your Reconciliation coincide with you becoming Catholic or is it before?

I’m asking because Easter is the usual time that those in RCIA become Catholics and Reconcilation would be done then.

Hi everyone. Last night was the service of reconciliation and I received my first confession. I feel great!

It finally feels like God is listening to me and caring, I love it. 😃
