Hello 🙂

Okay, so I come from a background where religon wasn’t forced but it was around. My father is a Jehovah witness and my mother is a catholic (I was born into wedlock)

Recently, I have been questioning the existence of god. This is the reason I made this account in the first place. I have been reading the bible and it seems different now, I can’t make sense of it. Please help? I need some kind of reassurance that god is still there.

I would stick around here for a while. I’m not the smartest person, but I’ve seen brilliant people on here who are able to really help with teaching about God.

God isn’t in the Bible, that’s a collection of ancient and to many people Sacred writings.

But, how does it seem different and what parts are you reading?

The Bible is about people and their relationship with God. Your most direct route through Scripture will be Gospels and Paul’s letters.

But I suggest prayer. You need to talk to God about this. You need a direct relationship. You might never read another post I make, but just from this electronic encounter, you know I exist. Talking to God is way more real than talking to me.

Assuming Catholic.

You believe in the Big Bang, I assume. Most people do. Well if time, space and matter were all created during it, then how could it have had a temporal, spatial or material cause? The only thing I can think of that is none of those is God.

Also consider all the random chance involved in abiogenesis. I’ve seen the probabilities involved. A quick google search gives the probability of a bacterium randomly forming as 1/10^10000000000. That’s 1 in 10 to the 10 billionth power. NOT likely to happen on its own. For comparison, 5σ, which most scientists would consider statistically significant, is on the order of e-7. Far, far more likely than abiogenesis. So if you support abiogenesis and evolution, it’s more than likely some sort of guiding force that started it. Again, such as God.

Side note:
Statistically significant. It means we have reason to believe something’s up and it’s not just a blip on the random chance radar

-------Catholics and I think all Christians believe the Bible is the divinely inspired word of God written by man. We also can not ignore the Old Testament because that is how we understand God’s Covenant Family bond with man and His divine Fatherhood. There are also Old Testament types or typology for New Testament people that we cant ignore because it is how we understand the purpose and fulfillment and role of the person in the New Covenant for example the Ark of the Covenant is the Old Testament type for Mary.

If you would like a clearer understanding of The Bible visit salvationhistory.com/ Dr. Scott Hahn is probably the best American Bible scholar alive right now. He created this website and foundation to help people understand sacred scripture better. His own conversion is amazing. My recommendation is to go to the audio tab, click on Audio Resources and start with Swear to God or First Comes Love. Dr. Hahn and Mike Acqulina are very easy to understand and take complex things and simplify it. These audio resources really helped me to fall in love with The Bible and not be intimated or confused any more. Hope this helps! Hugs

We’ve all been through those times! Remember that you can pray for faith. And don’t quit bugging Him until He gives it to you 😉 Also, I’ve heard it is helpful to continue “going through the motions” like attending Mass, even when you are doubting or going through a dry spell. Kinda like taking time off before college, once you get out of the habit of going to Mass it is harder than we think to just come back. Prayers and lots of hugs to you, and I hope you get some good advice and consolation from this board… and welcome! We’re glad you’re here!

What you need to come to understand is that it is not belief in God that is irrational, but rather it is atheism that is irrational.

Check Peter Kreeft’s site www.peterkreeft.com for many philosophical proofs for God’s existence. Also check William Lane Craig’s site www.reasonablefaith.org. Others are posting other links as well. You may be astonished at how much evidence one can find for the existence of God through natural reason alone, before any appeal to divine revelation. I know I was.
