I own a number of 1962 and pre 1962 missals, though I had not went to the Trid mass until this lent. I just received a copy of the 1962 Daily Missal from Baronius Press (which by the way is beautiful) and was in the process of setting it when I noticed that there was not anything to set it to. At first I thought that it was actually a Sunday missal but all of my daily missals are the same way (not to mention it says daily missal in the front cover) For example if I wished to set it to the Tuesday after the second Sunday in Easter what would I do?

To be honest, I have no idea what you mean by “setting it”.

Bump.

Do you mean finding the readings and what not for that day? I’m not really sure, myself.

There is no feast for the “Tuesday after the Second Sunday in Easter.”

Tomorrow (Apr. 5) is the feast of St. Vincent Ferrer, so the propers for his Mass would be used. Actually, I don’t have a missal handy to check, but I would expect that most of the prayers will be from the Mass for a Confessor not a Bishop, which should be referenced from St. Vincent’s page.

By setting it I mean finding the appropriate proper for the day.

Ok but what about days like the 6th 7th 8th and 9th , days that aren’t Sundays on which no saint is being remembered? In and when I said I wanted to find the proper for the Tuesday of the second week of Easter I was looking for something out of the proper of seasons.

I also own a Baronius Press Missal, which I agree is beautiful, but boy does it stink! It reeked when I first unwrapped it, but gradually the smell is lessening.

Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah. Look on page 1230 for April 5, St. Vincent Ferrer, Confessor. As you’ll see, we use the Mass of a Confessor not a Bishop on p. 1037 except the Collect.

I find each Missal is set up a little bit differently. Spend some time exploring it. You’ll be amazed at the richness of it. :blessyou:

Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe on days on which no saint is assigned, the Mass of the preceeding Sunday is said (called “Feria”). 1962 Missal, of course.

I know it’s the leather, it’s the same with all leather of that kind at first and it does go away (I have a bible bound with the same material).

Let me see if I got this, if for example I would go to mass on this Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday I would use the prayers and readings for the 3rd?

Well, that’s good to hear. The inside stinks too. Maybe it’s the ink they used for the gilding on the edges.

As you can see, I live an exciting life. Sniffing missals and reporting in detail the smell. I need a hobby.

Yes…that’s what it says in my bulletin for those days. It says “Feria.”

That does seem a little odd to me, now that I think about it. Using the same readings four days in a row??? I’m still a neophyte when it comes to the daily TLM. I usually only attend on Sunday.

Oh, at our parish, on Saturday the 9th, we’re having a Requim Mass for the Pope. I believe there’s a Mass for a Deceased Pope somewhere in the Missal. I don’t know if every TLM parish is doing that or not.

All the more time to think over and meditate upon the lessons.

Here’s a quick rundown of the next few days:

Tue, Feb. 5 is a 3rd class feast of St. Vincent Ferrier. The Mass is of a Confessor not a bishop, and the Preface is of Easter.

Wed., Feb. 6 through Fri., Feb. 8 are feriae of Easter. Preface is of Easter, and the propers (lessons, collect, etc.) are of Low Sunday.

Sat., Feb. 9 is a feria of Easter. Propers are of the Saturday of Our Lady. I think the lessons are still of Low Sunday, but I’m not sure. I don’t have a missal available right now. The Preface is of the Blessed Virgin.

Sun., Feb 10 is the second Sunday after Easter (Good Shepherd Sunday). Everything is proper to the day. Preface is of Easter, of course.

Would you be willing to help me find the right readings and prayers in the future?
