Help. Questions on prayer with the Rosary

I am a new Catholic. I have been praying the Rosary several times daily for different purposes/people. I have some questions.

If I plan on praying the Rosary for different intentions, such as “my physical health and spiritual well being”, the conversion of family members including my adult children, also my adult children’s health and physical well being, also all this for my grandson who is an infant, prayers for my brother who is in bad health, and also for things such as our priests and Church Apostolic, and also for many things our country and world needs, how specific do I need to be for a particular’s Rosary intentions?

What I’ve been doing is breaking it down to a Rosary for myself (health and spiritual), another one for my wife, another for my children and son-in-law, and another for my grandson, and yet another for my brother who is facing a very serious surgery. I usually let the group Rosary before Mass suffice for my Rosary said for priests/apostolic and national/world matters.

Questions:

How specific should the intentions of the Rosary be? How many things can one “lump in” for one prayed Rosary? Am I being too specific for praying individual Rosaries for different relatives? I really don’t mind it, as I have the time and enjoy doing it.

Also, when multiple Rosaries are prayed in a single day, should all prayed Rosaries for that day be the single set of mysteries set aside for that day, as in on Thursday, all Rosaries prayed would be the “Luminous”? This is my biggest concern. I have been praying the same mysteries over and over each day, as today I have prayed the “Luminous” twice already. Again, I don’t mind, I only want to do the correct thing.

This is my opinion only:
  1. Lump as many prayer requests as you want to on a rosary. We have a big God. He can handle them.
  2. Don’t worry about being specific - God will understand who/what you are talking about if you just say “for my grandson,” etc.
  3. Mysteries - if you want to one mystery all day, that’s fine. If you want to “rotate” through the day, that is fine, too. There is no right or wrong way to do it.
If you haven’t done so, I would highly recommend that you join the rosary confrantinity. Then you will be praying with a whole bunch of us, praying for each other.

The Rosary is known to be a very powerful prayer. It’s my favorite prayer ever since I started my devotion on it.

The Rosary, as powerful as it is, is also a very flexible. You can dedicate the entire Rosary to one intention or you can put separate intentions into each “Hail Mary”.

You can also pray the same mysteries for the entire week. I would pray the mystery that’s most needed in my case. Like for example, before I go to confession, I often pray the Sorrowful mysteries and once I’ve been to confession I pray the Joyful mysteries. It’s pretty much up to you.

Pray 1 decade or all 20 decades, it’s all good! 👍

I guess we can pile up all intentions on one rosary. For example: in the beginning of the rosary say “this rosary intention is for the protection of our nation’s security, the blessing for our Pope and the universal Church, all the clergies, my family, my relatives, my friends, etc, etc……”

But my personal perference is to categorize my intention.
For example, I’ll say one rosary for my immediate family. In it I give my specific intention for each of my family member. Though God is all knowing, I like to lift up my request specifically. Then I’ll say a rosary only for our nation, the protection of free from natural disasters and terror attack. I use the rosary as my penance and atonement for our nation, standing in the gap.
Then I say a rosary for our Pope, the universal Church, all the priests, nuns, brothers, deacons. Then I say a rosary specifically for my spiritual director and my pastor. Then……So on and so forth…

As for which mystery to reflect, I usually go by the day. If I say only one rosary for a particular intention, I’ll say the mystery for that day. Often times I say all four mysteries for my most earnest intention.

I have joined the Rosary Confraternity. I actually received my perpetual membership certificate today, and as I understand the above, this simply means that if you fail to pray the complete rosary once a week, you have committed no sin. It has nothing to do with marriage.
 
God isn’t like a vending machine where you receive according to he number of prayers you put in, nor is that what a Rosary is for.

Praying the Rosary is a way of growing closer to God, because he is God, not because of your request.

You can petition God at the end of your Rosary, but keep in mind, it isn’t because you said a Rosary that God responds, it’s because he is merciful and kind.

In no way am I trying to downplay praying at all.
But I would caution about burning yourself out with so many Rosaries 🙂 Now of course I read something like “Im a new Catholic” and I think well perhaps she isnt yet that far along the spiritual journey. And then I think, well shoot, praying the Rosary is what’s gonna get her there!
So my advice at least on that is, good! if you love the Rosary, keep it up. But be cautioned about feeling like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders.
Prayer + Fasting + Penance = Power.
Just some random thoughts.

You can never be too specific or too broad with God. If you feel called to pray multiple rosaries each day, go for it. I would recomment praying different mysteries for each rosary in a day. The schedule that we’re all familiar with is for those who only pray one a day (hopefully i’ll get there soon!!), and it is to ensure that they get to meditate on each of the mysteries. Certainly certain sets of mysteries are more appropriate for certain days, ie Sorrowful for Friday and Glorious for Sunday, but don’t feel constrained to a certain set.

Our Holy Mother told us to pray a lot. The more we pray the more crown of roses we are making for her. Fervent prayers make more differences than an occasional prayer. Rosary is also a great form of Lectio Divina, the meditation and reflection bring us closer to Jesus and Mary. If one likes to spend time with Jesus and Mary, it is good for the person to pray as many rosaries as time allows.😉

It is good to see a newly convert loves Rosary so much and have readily belonged to the Rosary Confraternity.

Saying all four mysteries is like walking with our Lord through the important events of his life. Saying them daily reminds us how great Jesus’ love is and how blessed we are as his children and followers! Better yet is to say them in front of the tabernacle, in the real physical presence of our Lord,
