I am currently a protestant who is really considering coming into the Catholic church. However, some things Ive read from Richard Bennett’s website has my mind all mixed up. Does anyone have answers for his problems with “Romanism” ?

Richard Bennett–Neil Diamond’s guitar player is confusing you about the Catholic Church??😉

Who is this Richard Bennett that you are talking about??

God Bless!

No- the Richard Bennett the OP references (I presume) is a former priest who runs bereanbeacon.org/

I’m reading his testimony right now. I’ll have a response presently…

Considering that the website refers to the Pope as the Antichrist, I’d say, you can see this guy’s problems a mile away. If a particular article there has confused you, please specify it — it’d take forever to debunk the whole website.

**You should read legitimate Catholic websites, such as Catholic Answers. There is no confusion here.👍 **

I have read Bennett’s testimony and it portrays the Catholic Church as cold and forbidding, probably because that is how he perceived it as he was gradually shutting it out. When you compare Bennett’s experience with that of Martin Luther, you see that his problems were primarily concerning authority. Both men thought they knew better than the Church and neither was able to submit to the authority of the Church. When I finished reading the testimony, I rather pitied Bennett for being such a fundamentally unhappy person.

Well, that’s what comes of a Jesuit education, I guess… 😛

More seriously, it seems that Bennett “knew” the Faith, but never really understood it. He had an intellectual faith, but it seems that he never achieved a love for Christ. He never managed to connect his head and his heart.
