I know this has been a long post, and I will try to wrap it up, but I want to say a few last things. First I want to say that if I said anything that offended anyone or was theologically unsound, I appologise and please please correct me. Second, for those of you who gave advise and prayers thank you so much, I have had a lit of time to figure things out and rededicate myself to god. Your continued prayers are much welcomed.

Can’t wait to hear from everyone,
mollydolly

Okay
An idea that has given me strength to overcome lust is this: Would I be willing to teach my son that indulging in lust is good (not just permissible, but good)? Would I teach my daughter that it’s okay for guys to look at her the way I did when I looked at porn?

The way you act right now is the example you’re setting for your children someday (assuming marriage is your vocation). Become now who you’re supposed to be so you can be a light to others.

That is such a great way to put things into perspective because my life dream is to be a mother. I love children so much. Thanks

Thanks for explaining a bit more. Could it just be that you admire the person’s physical appearance or intellect? I mean, I’m male, and I can admire a guy who’s well-built or intelligent. Anymore, given my follicle-challenged scalp, I deeply admire/jealous/envious of anyone, male or female, with nice luxuriant hair. Wish I had more.

At any rate, it may not be as tough a situation as you might think. But you would know better than me.

Hi mollydolly,

To some extent, sexual desire and masturbation are normal, but if they are becoming a genuine addiction, don’t rule out medical attention.
Just because they are “normal” doesn’t mean it is right to do and should not be encouraged or normalized. Here is what the Church teaches.

CCC 2396 “Among the sins gravely contrary to chastity are masturbation, fornication, pornography, and homosexual practices”.

CCC 2352 By masturbation is to be understood the deliberate stimulation of the genital organs in order to derive sexual pleasure. “Both the Magisterium of the Church, in the course of a constant tradition, and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action.” “The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose.” For here sexual pleasure is sought outside of “the sexual relationship which is demanded by the moral order and in which the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love is achieved.”

To form an equitable judgment about the subjects’ moral responsibility and to guide pastoral action, one must take into account the affective immaturity, force of acquired habit, conditions of anxiety or other psychological or social factors that lessen, if not even reduce to a minimum, moral culpability."

I think that’s a good idea to avoid being alone with her. Also, try to avoid finding out if she does have similar struggles, as it may make the temptation a lot worse. Please continue to keep us updated so we can help you and continue to pray for you!
This is pretty sound advice and I concur, although it’s tough to do.

I agree with you that homosexual attraction is a kind of learned disposition, and there can be a lot of psychological development factors in it (relations with parents, experiences with peers, the emotional changes involved in natural personal maturization).

To some extent I wonder whether a good part of male homosexuality is just convenience. Young men like sex regardless of the other person in many cases, and here you have two people, which is all it takes, with the same personal desire, without the relationship/emotions aspect (and its challenges). This ends up being a path of least resistance. That’s just my hypothesis.

Maybe the chastity classes are a kind of occasion of sin.

Okay although it’s true that I admire her her appearance and her intellect, it’s way more than that. There is a stronger attraction to her than I have ever felt for any guy…

If anything they are a source of conviction. It’s all based on looking at the whole person rather than just the physical appearance… And out of a four night program only one of those nights is spent talking about the body itself. Plus It’s based on theology of the body which is one of the most beatiful courses I have ever studied. So if anything teaching these classes keeps me in line! I love it. I feel like a total hypocrite but I just really enjoy teaching these kids to respect their bodies.

Don’t feel like a hypocrite. You are doing the right thing. We are all sinners but we try to love and grow closer to Him.

In mass the priest says “do not look at our sins but on the faith of your Church”. You have the faith and by God’s grace you will overcome this.

This is a cross you have to bear but He does not give you more than what you can handle and your love for the Lord is greater than this temptation.

ANY addiction is SLAVERY. The real question is: do you want to be a slave to this all life long? Or be FREE?

For instance: Alcohol addition means that a person must drink and accommadate their whole life to drink and plan their day around getting that next drink. Even tho it makes them sick to their stomach
give them headaches
makes them sneaks
makes them ill
makes them smell
makes them abnoctious
makes them lyers
makes them angry
makes them into someone else
makes them dirty in the soul
and so much more.

If they are weak and their chains too strong, what is the answer? MOTIVATION to quit.
“LORD please give me the desire and motivation to quit this and I will endure the pain that comes with this.” If this is said everytime, everyday, God will give them that desire and the rest will fall into place. Absolutely. When the person wants to quit, it will happen. The Holy Spirit will turn on the lights, like hitting a switch on inside the soul, and suddenly it all falls into place.

In any adiction, desire of the person to quit is necessary. The Holy Spirit gives that desire.
This is what He does; making the weak strong. Joan of Arc a weak little girl a warrior. David a young lad into a giant slayer.

Lord give me the desire, please. Mary help me to want what you dear Son wants.
He will fill in the blanks for you.

Behold the Lamb of God, all who eat, all who drink, shall live.

Well, Molly, tough question here, but I’ll ask it: do you just dislike men?

You’re right, and I didn’t mean to imply that. I only meant that if it was not done to excess, there’s no (medical) cause for alarm.

I am sorry you have me confused. What would be a medical cause for alarm?

Masturbation is not good once or 1000 times and should be avoided, not excused and not encouraged.

Hard said than done I know but that’s the struggle we all face.

No I don’t dislike men! I find men attractive and I have my crushes just like any other highschool girl. It’s not at all because I don’t like men.

Guard your heart… (c.f. Proverbs 4:23)

‘O Ye virgins, I have but a word to say to you. If you look to married life in this life, guard your first love jealously for your husband. It seems to me a miserable fraud to give a husband a worn-out heart, whose love has been frittered away and despoiled of its first bloom instead of a true, whole-hearted love. But if you are happily called to be the chaste and holy bride of spiritual nuptials, and purpose to live a life of virginity, then in Christ’s Name I bid you keep all your purest, most sensitive love for your Heavenly Bridegroom, Who, being Very Purity Himself, has a special love for purity; Him to Whom the first-fruits of all good things are due, above all those of love.’

St. Francis de Sales

Put yourself in solitary confinement in your room and just sit there. Have a friend watch you so you can’t move. Eventually you’ll go into a sex detox and not feel the urges anymore. Sounds awkward but its the only way to do it.

Things are going much better thank you
You know you might just make it a practice to put some distance, not see her for a couple of weeks. That’d cool down about any friendship thing, might make your eyes more open to a reassessment about her.

It’s pretty easy for an older teen to get a bit enraptured with a non-familial adult who seems to have his or her act all together, etc.
