I’m the creator of Catholic Sistas.

While I completely agree with the valid points brought up with the poll, the idea behind the poll is mainly to give the faithful an opportunity to be heard.

If you read the body of the post, you will see that it is not designed ONLY for the faithful, but rather an inclusion of those who understand and adhere to the teachings of the Church, not just the non-Mass goers of the original poll.

To my knowledge, the poll has been sent out to friends and family, faithful and non-Mass going, so we are not just looking for the faithful. We want a balanced representation and hope to, at the very least, get something that is more honest than the skewed sampling the White House came up with.

I’m confident we’ll accomplish that. No poll is perfect, true. But we have to start somewhere and we will consider followup polls to further delve into the mindsets that drive the contraceptive mentality.

Most who are aware of Church teaching on contraception probably already know that catechesis on this subject has been sorely lacking. We are using this poll as an opportunity to open eyes and hearts from both ends…the faithful and the lapsed/poorly catechized.

With charity, we need to strive to be mindful that we are ALL sinners and none is above another. I think the poll gives us a platform to start those conversations.

If you’ve participated in the poll, THANK YOU! In less than 24 hours we are almost at our capacity sampling and could not have done this without so many women who are committed to having their voices heard. 🙂

There’s still time to take the survey. Click on the bright yellow button on the homepage at www.catholicsistas.com and have your voice heard and counted!
So you made/designed the page? You did an awesome job!

Does anyone know if there is any place we can see the actual questions and raw data for the Guttmacher study being cited everywhere, the 98% one?

From the horse’s mouth:

The main source of the whole thing is illustrated by Figure 3 on page 6 of the study. There’s a bar graph that shows which percentage of Catholic women use which type of means to avoid pregnancy. NFP is 2%. “No method” is 11%. The only way to get the 98% figure is to discount only those using NFP but include those who are using no method at all.

I think the bar graph is for currently using, and the 98% is for people that have ever used. I wanted to see the actual questions, answers, and the actual number of people selecting each etc… Not just their synopsis. and conclusions… Like how did they word “trying to get pregnant” for classification purposes? How did they include and exclude different groups? I am curious, for example, how I would fall in any of the categories (am I trying to get pregnant, because I am not avoidin?), or how a nun (who is a Catholic woman) would affect the answers, or women who have stopped using ABC for moral reasons, but used it in the past, or women who use it to treat something, and not for birth control… etc.

ETA: I really liked the article you posted a couple posts ago debunking the Guttmacher publications, but I want to find the source where they got their information.

Guttmacher Institute did not conduct the survey. The National Survey of Family Growth did. cdc.gov/nchs/data/series/sr_23/sr23_025.pdf

Survey after survey has shown that Catholics use contraception at the same rate as everyone else. Even factoring in church attendance, religiosity, and orthodox sexual ethics the only difference in contraceptive use between Catholics and everyone else is that practicing or religious Catholics are much more likely to use sterilization.

lifeissues.net/writers/feh/feh_28religion_contraception.html

I can’t find any good reason to reject the survey as much as everyone would like to.

No true Catholic would ever use contraception? Would any true Catholic lie? Lust after someone? Covet?

Even true Catholics sin and make mistakes.
Simple. Catholics stop being true Catholics when they step away from the truth and then become true Catholics again after they repent. So, no true Catholic uses contraception.

Thank you! I think that is what I was looking for!

I don’t have time to go over it completely right now, I will definitely being looking over it, but off the bat I found this:

Ever-use of any birth control methods—The term ‘‘ever-use of any method’’ is based on the recode ANYMTHD, which takes into account use of any birth control method *for any reason *in the ever-use series, as well as ever having a sterilizing operation or having sexual intercourse with a male partner who had a sterilizing operation.
