So I was singing a song and I sang one line that went like “are you crazy, are you crazy.” and I think I thought something about God in that moment and was thinking he was crazy and then I kind of got a little worried or stressed but not too much and I thought that would’ve been the unforgivable sin. I’m not sure and now I’m worried but when I have those kind of thoughts it makes me feel like I meant it. Also today I was reading that stating that God was unjust, unkind, and cruel was the unforgivable sin and for some reason not sure why but I said quietly God is kind, just and he isn’t cruel but it sounded like I said that he is cruel even though that wasn’t what I meant to say.

How often do you have these kind of thoughts?

Please be aware that these kind of thoughts and worries may lead you towards becoming scrupulous. I’d advise talking to your parents and getting some guidance from your Priest.

All kinds of thoughts come in and out of our minds all day. We have very little control over what comes in. What you just described is just your mind playing tricks on you. To commit a mortal sin would take a huge decision in your will. To know exactly what you were doing and then doing it anyway. As one priest once told me, “It takes a lot of work to commit a mortal sin.” But that’s not what seems to have happened with you. It sounds like you struggle with scrupulosity. You may want to pick up a copy of a great book called Understanding Scrupulosity by Fr. Thomas Santa. It helped me a lot.
