HELP! Very difficult question to answer

So I’m not on these forums very often, I guess you could say I’m a “Newbie”?

Anywho,
I have a very tricky question.
In the Bible Christ said to look at a woman with Lust in your heart is the same as committing adultery with her, correct?
To that logic, does that mean (for example(s)) that a Male who looks at another Male lustfully or i.e. thinks of him sexually, acts on that sexual impulse, etc is committing the act of Homosexuality?

Or if someone who lusts after an Animal or who thinks of an Animal sexually, etc
Doesn’t that mean they’ve done the same as having sex with the Animal?

I’ve always wondered about things like that because of that verse in the Bible.
If that’s the case, then could one say according to the old testament if my two examples above were real life examples, would those people need or deserve to be put to death?

Considering that according to the Catechism that the death penalty should only be used as a last resort, I would say no.

The looking on phrase is not the passing temptation, it’s the invitation for the temptation to come in a set for while while you entertain it.

In other words, you would be committing the sin if you could, but since you can’t you are just going to imagine it–then you have committed the sin in your heart.

Should these people be put to death? Ummm, how are you going to find out about it? How will you prove it?

In Catholic teaching, there is a specific form of tolerance (*not *the tolerance which really means anything goes). This is tolerance of some situation because doing something about it would cause a disproportionate amount of disorder or other serious problem.

So, making laws which cause a lot of disorder in their enforcement might prudentially be avoided and that is why we do not have laws against a lot of sins. Even in Catholic nations, there were no laws against telling your wife she looked great in that dress when she didn’t, but there were laws against fraud and perjury.

But as to whether they deserve it… well, consider the terrible harm caused by people who allow their imagination to run riot and who eventually try to act out on their fantasies. A lot of people convicted of sex crimes also were involved with pornography, which would definitely be part of lusting in one’s heart, no?

depends on whether or not they nuture the thoughts, the desire in and of itself is not bad (though the thought of beastiality is sickening). if the desire were bad, then the sex drive would be bad, because looking at a women can cause arousal and attraction. the original attraction is not a sin, but if they dwell on the topic freely and use those thoughts to obtain sexual pleasure, then yes, it is a sin.

should they be put to death? no, that would only deny them the oppurtunity to receive God’s mercy, and we have little to no authority to say whether another person should live or die. the death penalty, as has been said before, should be used ONLY as a last resort, and their are plenty of other options for protecting people from such a person.
