In 2009 I had an affair, left the house for about 4 months. I thank God that God touched me and reminded me of where my love really was and went back. During that same time, as payback, my wife spent the night with another man. Here we are 4 years later the evening of 9/9/13. My kids and I got confirmation that my wife was having an affair. The man’s wife called me to tell me. I left the house. Ever since then I have been praying for God to restore our marriage, our family. I am 40, my wife is 42. We have 5 wonderful children and a beautiful 10 month old granddaughter. We have been together for 11 years, married for 7.5. My children have seen her transform from a wonderful wife and mother to an 18 year old girl. I have tried to stand firm, be patient but it is as if she is in a race. She has already filed for divorce. We have our divorce court on 12/4, just 3 months after. I have heard excuses from I wasn’t good to our step kids, I was controlling with her, to I was mean to her sisters, to I looked at women. Now, she is saying that it happened because of what I did 4 years ago. My step kids and I get along great, I see my grandaughter as much as possible, take her to church with me (keep in mind she is not my blood grandfather). They are actually testifying for me on my behalf in a restraining order case she put on me. I didn’t like her sisters, she says, because I didn’t like lending them money. This is where the controlling part comes in. We were always in a financial strain, paying rent late, taking out pay day loans, advances from banks, hardship withdrawals from our 401k. So yes, I did control the money and I didn’t like lending any out because we didn’t have enough for us, much less to lend out. As fas a looking at women, I learned to control myself last November and even then, I didn’t do it to the point she said but I still had to walk with my head down just to avoid problems and accusations. I have come to the conclusion that restoration is not for everyone. After the affair with the married man, she says it was only emotional but just yesterday she confessed to my daughter that it was actually sexual.Looks like the guy went back to his wife but then she told my daughter that she was talkind to someone else, someone younger. Now, she told someone else that she is going out one in a while, that she is “liking” guys but she makes sure that they are single. to me that means that she is dating. Keep in mind we are still married. There has been no repentance, no looking back. She is moving into a smaller place, traded our minivan for an Altima and then decided to tint the windows and put a sound system in it. Because of the restraining order she put on me, I have had to get an attorney. i have not seen my children since 11/4, i saw them briefly 11/15 but they would not go near me. My children and i had a very strong bond, now i dont even know what to expect from them. They are 5 years old twins and 1 10 year old. My step children are going to be called as witnesses to prove that she has anger issues, prone to verbal abuse, and physical abuse. I have never hit my wife. I have never even called her a name. i am so lost, even after all of this i acutally thought she only had an emotional affair but after finding out that it was a full on affair i feel even more broken, more let down, more hurt. Am i the one to blame for her going out this time? we have a broken family, broken children and i dont know what to do. i want to stop hurting, i want to stop caring.

Why stop caring? You made a vow to remain faithful, and you broke that vow. She has broken it also. Both of you are guilty, both are casting stones. I am so sorry for your heartache, and for her heartache. But most of all, I am sorry for these kids who are paying the price of the inappropriate and childish actions taken by both of their parents.

Forgiveness and healing is a long process, and it requires both sides to do the work. I am very sorry you are in this situation. You are in my prayers.

I know we are both to be blamed but does it matter that we both did it 4 years ago. we both came back and now she went and did it AGAIN? We were supposed to forgive each other 4 years ago. When i found out about this affair i asked her to go to counseling again but her answer was no. she still denies what she did or that there was anything worng with what she did. saying that it was a “platonic” relationship eventhough she just admitted to my daughter that in fact it was sexual.

well stop and look at it this way women cheat for very different reasons then men Men normally cheat because they want the thrill thats not there in thier relationship women cheat out of hurt or feelings of neglect she obviously was hurt and neglected by your affair and has started this one to make herself feel wanted and loved now she is having the female equivelant of a mid life crisis but she is in the wrong I could see her maybe cheating then having this affair and breaking it off but she is acting like a woman who never had a single life and now thinks she can as a married woman she cant point blank she needs to ask forgiveness she needs not only yours but Christs, if she has filed for divorce simple contest it and dont give it to her tell her that you want to go to counseling at least a years worth before you will make any kind of decision about divorce

Try Retrouvaille or ask your parish priest about faith based marriage counseling

When I read your post, I know exactly how you feel. My wife cheated on me with her co-worker, four years ago. I thought we worked through the issues of what made her do that. Unfortunately, she cheated on me again with a different coworker at the beginning of the month. I confronted her about it, and she admitted doing it after a lot of yelling. I’m two years older than you, and she is a couple years younger than me. We decided to go to counseling, and last night was the first session. We found a Christian counselor, and he seems to be a big difference in my anger dealing with her. We tried counseling four years ago, but it didn’t work and my wife left during one of the sessions. You are not alone in your sorrow, and it is for you, that I pray that God will give you strength during this time. The hardest thing I have been trying to accept is that I can’t control anyone except myself, so my wife can make poor decisions on her own. If your wife is not willing to go through counseling and had an affair to get back at you, she is not acting out of love, but vengeance. Until she is in a place to admit she hurt you and your family, you won’t be able to do much except pray for her conversion. What I write is not going to change things, but know you are not alone in your pain, and I’m sorry you are feeling the same anguish as me. The counselor last night told my wife and I that God has plans to do things that we don’t understand or appreciate sometimes. If we can look at this moment as an opportunity to allow God into our hearts, we might change for the good. I realize I’ve been dealing with the pain for four years, and now it is all resurfaced again. It is very hard to be a Christian and not lash out in anger. I will pray for you and your family.

Can you see some kind of counselor, individually? I think it would be hard to even think right now. You have a lot of issues. Whether or not you divorce or any of the rest, I think you need someone who can help you to see these issues, objectively.

If you have health insurance, it might cover some visits under the mental health part of it.

Even though it might cost a copay, it might even be worth it, so you can get speak to someone about your problems. With friends, nice as they can be, it’s not the same as a counselor. A counselor would, hopefully, have had possibly hundreds of similar cases to draw on, experience.

Also, with family or friends, when they ask, “How are you?”, they might not have the patience with you that you need to get these issues worked out.

Since your faith is of concern, when you try to get a counselor, if you are given the option to pick, try to get one who is Christian. If not, someone who is at least sympathetic to your position…Christianity, I mean.

I think the issues will need to be worked through, individually, one at a time.

Also, a counselor might also know community resources, just other things you might not.

You are probably having trouble with all that being able to think straight. I know if I were on the receiving end of that ,I would.

A counselor would also help you feel less alone.

Anyway, I’ll close with a prayer.

Our Father, who art in heaven. Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.

I tried repeatedly and the only words i hear out of her mouth is that she hates me. There are so many other things that have happened in the last 3 months that i cant bring myself to say except that she is thriving on the attention that she now gets after losing weight. In my heart i feel as if the woman who was my wife died 6 months ago. Neither i or my children recognize her. I die a little more each time my children tell me something new that she is doing.

Last month i started seeing a christian counselor and 2 weeks ago i started attending a divorce recovery support group. As a man, i never thought i would ever need that much help. we are supposed to be the stronger sex but it is times like this that we realize just how similar our hearts are, men and womens. I laugh when she said that i was losing weight because i was already seeing someone. She doesn’t realize the damage that she has done to me. my only conceirn now is to heal and to see my children again. She has taken so much from me already. she took our marriage, destroyed our family and broke our children. She literally took all our lives and our future in to her hands and threw it away like a piece of thrash.

I’ve been there, and have been divorced 18 years now.

I have encountered those in similar situations in real life several times, and also in this forum. I can only post briefly now.

From one of my previous posts on this subject:

After my wife had left me I discovered James Dobson’s Love Must Be Tough, (free pdf) and it made sense of all I had been through in the separation process. Many others have found that as well. I just wish that I had discovered it BEFORE I went through this stage. Dobson is a Protestant, but I believe that his advice is the best I’ve ever seen for marital infedility.

In a nutshell, Dobson is saying that you, the cheated on spouse, must be “tough” in yourself, and committed to the marriage and your values, and give the cheating spouse their freedom, but not complete licence. No bargaining, pleading, or anger. Be willing to discuss your marriage, but don’t accept the blame for your spouse’s behaviour.

You and your family are in my prayers.

😦

I know that feeling.

That is great that you are doing something to get support and counselling for yourself.

Just take it one day at a time. Cling close to God. Don’t blame yourself for your wife’s actions, even if she is adamant that it is all your fault.

Glad you found this to be a place to go to help get it off your chest.

Hit up the prayer intentions section and get some good divine intervention going.

God Bless.

Thank you , i did get this book and read it from cover to cover. i am sad to say that it really did not do much for me. I think if the offending spouse is on the fence then it is a very useful book. in my case she is not only over the fence but i can only see a glimpse of her running away.

So sorry to hear that. :bighanky:

What faith is she?

I’ll say another prayer…

Our Father, who art in heaven. Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. :gopray:

she was christian as well. the problem is about 6 months ago she got involved in my sons pop warner and because it took up a lot of her time she stopped going to church regularly and that is when she met the man she had an affair with. prior to that she was a sunday school teacher, a vbs teacher, an usher and she once even had her own kids choir.

I was going to say…because if she is either Catholic, or Christian, she wouldn’t believe in divorce.
