I know that in the Eastern Churches, many use Greek in their liturgies. There is a controversial interpretation of the “Pale” in the Pale Horse of the Book of Revelation by John.

Douy-Rheims Bible Revelation 6:7-8

"7 And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature, saying: Come, and see. 8 And behold a pale horse, and he that sat upon him, his name was Death, and hell followed him. And power was given to him over the four parts of the earth, to kill with sword, with famine, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth. "

Some Evangelicals say that the word in Greek for pale could be interpreted as green. Then they associate green with Islam and have various theories concerning the Temple of the Rock and the rebuilt Temple of the End Times.

I believe the word in question is "chlōros." Is it possible that this could mean green rather than "pale.
Thanks,

Well I looked at 7 different translation from the 1940 to the present and all suggest the same things:

“chlōros” is a description of a body in decomposition. it is taken idiomatically for a “pale green” color of a body long dead. Some Translate it as “ashen”. Byzantine Greek bible suggests a “pale (lack of blood) muted (flat, dead) greenish (not white)” according to the translation I saw. Remember that in this age of great distance from the originals and a lack of languages taught in American school people rely on their leaders who are in turn relying on their teachers…ect. The best hermeneutic, in my opinion, is seek consensus unless it is a matter of strict doctrine and stay way for the extremes.

Your friends interpretations sounds like a political agenda. 15 years ago it was Saddam was the man in blue in revelation… Tell them politely “thank you for sharing” and move on.

Have a God filled day…

I’ve actually heard more Greek than Latin. :o
I will always remember my Greek class at university. One of our new words of the day was “Kyrie”, and some grammatical example of it was given in the form of “Kyrie eleison”. One of the other students suddenly shot up in shock, “Wait… that’s Greek? I thought it was Latin!”

Oh, I only asked here because I figure somebody ought to be a expert in Greek. I didn’t mean to create a controversy about Greek in the Latin Church. Although some of the Evangelicals may be politically driven, “pale green” as a dead body seems to fit the picture, I guess. Bodies turn black, blue in death.

The theisis of this "green" horse is that green is a color in the Moslem religion. I checked that and this is true. So the Temple of the Rock is built already on the Temple mount, and this Temple is the one described in the Book of Revelation.

Some of the best minds in this country belong to some Evangelical Church. I didn't buy this particular theory. I believe if the topic surfaces again, from the opinions given here, and from what I researched, I can make a better contribution.

I am homebound. I have a wall of books but they are technical journals related to my field of study. So I use the Internet and while there are some very good sources there are some very, very, very bad ones.
God Bless All of You and Thanks for your Kind Attention,
BP
