I have already gone to confession but here is the dilemma I am faced with. I have a nicotine vapouriser, and a few weeks ago my grandmother found it and took it away. My mother convinced my grandmother to give it to her so that she could “give it to a friend”, but rather she gave it back to me. That is to say, although I went to confession, I am still using the fruits of mine and my mother’s deceit. What is the best route to take? I cannot indict my mother, nor can I go cold turkey.

Advice or suggestions are appreciated!

Are you a minor, if so you should talk with your mom and respect her and what she would want you to do. I would also recommend taking to your priest and ask him for his counsel about this.

Your mother will need to work our her own dishonesty in confession. If you’re a minor, it seems particularly odd that she’d encourage your habit, but you might consider acquiring a new vaporizer to stave off your guilt.

Your grandmother likely doesn’t understand the nature of addiction, (i.e. the inability to quit cold turkey), and was acting out of love and concern. Since you even mentioned being unable to cut yourself off abruptly, are you intending to quit?

Obey your parents. Speak to your priest, and ask your mother to let you speak to your pediatrician about treatment for nicotine addiction.

Quit as soon as you can. If cold turkey doesn’t work for you, find another method that works. Your physician might be able to help or advise. You’ll be much better off when you are free of nicotine.

Yes I intend to quit through slowly lessening the amount of nicotine in the vape.

As a former smoker, who tried to quit numerous times, I can tell you that you are fooling yourself.

You will never quit, until you QUIT!
It is not easy, but after 21 days, the physical addiction to the nicotine is gone, and then it is all mental.

The vape is a crutch.

I got very sick. I could not use my hands to hold a cigarette or light a lighter.
I ended up being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.
By the time I was actually feeling better and could use my hands again, it had been 27 days. I knew the physical addiction was gone at,that, point so it became a matter of will. I had gone that long, so what was another day.
Its been a little over 5 years smoke free, after smoking a pack a day for 25 years.
