Hi,

I inherited a relic from my dad and under it the label reads, “S. August, E. D.”. I suspect it is St. Augustine and the E. D. is Ecclesiare Doctrinal? It’s a first class relic (bone).

Can somebody help me out? Thanks!

Did you ask if he has the authentic (paperwork) that goes with it? This would provide more information, assuming it is genuine.

My guess would be the E.D. stands for “Bishop (Episcopus) and Doctor”

Unfortunately he passed away in March so I inherited it from mom. I couldn’t find the paperwork (yet). That’s a task in itself. 😦

Have a picture of the seal on the back as well? I’ve PM’d someone who might be able to help.

Hope this are clear enough. I didn’t know what you were talking about so I took a chance and opened the back.

This site explained a lot about the authenticity documentation and what the “E. D.” means (E: Bishop, D: Doctor of the Church). ichrusa.com/saintsalive/cert.htm

Christus_Vincit you were correct. 🙂

It even said that if the papers are lost it’s difficult but not impossible to have new papers generated. I just don’t know how.

I wish I had a list of seals so I could look up the one on the back.

Ok, here’s an update. We have Augustinian priest who says mass almost every Sunday night but I kept missing him. Last Sunday I brought the relic with me and showed him the relic and the seal. I told him we haven’t found the paperwork. He said more than likely we won’t because it is very old. In his opinion it is authentic and I believe him. He said St. Augustine relics are very rare so keep it safe (and I will).
