I’m having a debate with a Protestant friend, and he wrote me:
“Reading through John 20:23 is important. Though Jesus was speaking directly to some of the apostles, he was not speaking to all. Thomas was not present for that little talk…does Thomas then not have the power to forgive or retain sins? The interesting thing comes right before it. He says to “Receive the Holy Spirit.” Since we have all received that gift, I think that is the condition for the following statements in 20:23.”
What do I say about Thomas?
Who has really recieved the Holy Spirit?
