Help with baby girl middle names?

I have my mid-pregnancy ultrasound coming up very soon, and my husband and I are in agreement upon the first name of the baby, whether it is a boy or girl. We are going with Theodore (Teddy, for short) for a boy, or Theodora (Teddie, for short) for a girl. If we are having a boy, we like the middle name Jude, but if we are having a girl, we have no clue of what middle name would be good with Theodora.

We haven’t announced the pregnancy to family yet, and our plan is to surprise everyone with all the news: pregnancy, sex of the baby, and selected name, immediately following the ultrasound (which they obviously don’t know about yet either). But we are stuck on the middle name problem. Any ideas?

I like Anne and Jane in concept, because they are single syllable, just like Jude for a boy. Especially with Theodora being such a long first name, a very short middle name would offset that nicely.

Any other single syllable middle name ideas?
 
I suggest sticking with one-syllable middle names, if there are any you like; Theodora is a long name, and both “Theodora Blank” and “Teddy Blank” sound nice to me. Personally, I am fond of names like Anne and Jane.
 
Yes, Anne is my fave between those two. Although I really do like Jane, too, we cannot use that name.

I want to give several options to my husband for him to choose from, though.
 
Single syllable? Oh don’t you go stealing the “Rose” from my older daughter…
 
Having a boyish first name and a girly middle name would be just like her mama, too. My first name is a boy’s name, but it was combined with a very girly middle name. 🙂
 
Fortunately my daughters either have two middle names or double first names. So three names in total; they can stand to give up a few I guess.

Could make it a bear when other members of my family or in-laws have kids though. On the other hand, “Rose” is about as mainstream as it gets for any of the names our three kids have. We are certifiably insane.
 
Claire, Anne, Jo, Mae, Rose, Eve, June, Leigh, Maeve…

This has really helped us already. I have been furiously texting with my husband all your ideas and he even came up with one of his own: Lynn. So far his faves are Anne and Lynn. But I love all your ideas.

I am absolutely horrible about picking baby names. This is the first time we have ever decided to reveal the name before the birth of the baby. Normally we have the whole pregnancy to figure it out, which suits me just fine. But we figured that we are doing everything else differently this time around, so why not decide on the name early, too? 🤷

As long as she doesn’t choose “Evelt” as a confirmation name. 😉 (Get it, “Teddie Rose Evelt” :o)

My wife is always all about balancing the first and middle name, such as not having both be overly long. I think two syllables could still work. In addition to those suggest, I think “Marie” could be nice.

What about Judith? If you really like Jude why not feminize it? If she’s a rough and tumble type you can call her Teddie Jude and if she’s a girly girl you can go full names.

I like Rose, but since my own middle name is Anne, I like that also. I like the fact the St. Anne was Mary’s mother so Jesus grandmother (kind of).

This is just a personal quirk but I suggest avoiding what I call “filler” middle names and that list includes Lynn. Anne is okay but Ann is not. Also on the list: Marie, Jo, Lee (Leigh is kind of okay). I know the middle names of a lot of people and among women these names are ubiquitous. Let’s give them a rest. There are a lot of options out there so let’s use them. 👍

Now, if any of those is a “family name” passed down from a previous generation or the name of a friend or someone you want to honor, that makes it okay to use (in my mind :whacky:)

Yes, Marie is a saint’s name, as it Ann but many times Mary would work as well as Marie. There are also more saints than just Ann and Marie so plenty of variety.

And I love Theodora Rose. ❤️ And Theodore Jude! Each name clicks with the other well.
