Hello everyone,

I have a problem that pertains to my devotion to Mary. I love her and i want to be more devoted to her, and i have considered Saint Louis De Montforts consecration, however i feel that i cannot connect with his spirituality and methods. I was wondering if it was okay if i could consecrate myself to Our Lady by some other means, but using the same words of Saint Louis, “Totus Tuus Maria”. Is this is acceptable or should i figure out some other way.

I have looked into all of the other forms of marian consecration however none of them feel right to me. Can i compose my own? I just feel like if i do this i will be breaking the rules or disobeying a Saint or the Blessed Virgin herself. What else can i do other than the Rosary to please Our Lady? Can anyone help me out?

Thank you so much!

Yes, i have worn the brown scapular and have been enrolled, but to me it just doesnt really help me. I dont know what it is to be honest.

Braedon,

Do you say the rosary like the enrollment in the brown scapular requests that you do?

You could also pray the Angelus after mass.

V. The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary,
R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
R. Be it done unto me according to thy Word.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
V. And the Word was made flesh.
R. And dwelt amongst us.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray: Pour forth, we beseech thee, O Lord, your grace into our hearts, that we to whom the incarnation of Christ Thy Son was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His resurrection; through the same Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.

What have you done to get to know her? I had been away from the church a very long time. I felt as you did when I prayed the rosary. I started reading stories about the saints and in particular, Marian apparitions. I learned a lot about our Mother in heaven. My earthly mother had a devotion to her and when she died, I inherited our family’s statue of the Virgen. Do you have one? She has really helped in keeping me focused on her and her son, Jesus, while praying the rosary.

A beautiful statue (needn’t be an expensive one, there are wonderful figurines made of polyresine which are affordable) or a picture of Mary usually helps. Put it in a special place, look at it and light a candle in front of it to honor the Virgin.

I’m now 38 years old, I was baptized 19 years ago and have always been practising the faith… and yet it took me years and years to develop a personal relationship to Mary, in fact it is still in the process of developping. So don’t put pressure on yourself. Ask the Lord and His Blessed Mother to help you to get to know her better and better, and be patient with yourself.

I can I think vaguely remember reading St De Montfort saying you can consecrate yourself as you wish. Don’t quote me though, it’s a bit vague. But anyway I am sure that Blessed Mary would be pleased with any devotion!! 🙂

God bless
