Just throwing this out there before I plunk down some money. If you were to pick a Bible commentary that has great exegesis and maybe apologetics information, what would you pick?

I was thinking about the Haydock one.

Yes? No?

Thanks!

Haydock is excellent.

There’s also the Navarre series. But it can be kind of expensive to purchase.

Scott Hahn also has a number of commentaries, but there not all in one book.

Haydock is full of good information along with the apologetics and commentary too. Hard cover is now available at Catholic Treasures ($150)

I don’t own the Haydock so I can’t comment on it other than to say I’ve heard good things about it.

I can wholeheartedly recommend the Navarre series though. It’s hard to imagine a bible commentary being better than the Navarre series. It has english (rsv) and latin (nv), tons of notes and commentary, both for apologetics and for personal living out your faith. They use a variety of voices for their commentary, the faculty of NU, the EC Fathers, catechism, church documents, church councils, theologians, Escriva, Augustine, Theresa of Avila, DeSales, Jerome, Gregory the Great, on and on.

A great thing is the individual bonus essay sections given with each book: In various books you get essays on: a general introduction to the NT, an introduction to the gospels, history of the NT, the canon, the truth of sacred scipture, Rules for biblical interpretation etc etc.

I am speaking specifically about the the set of books you can buy either individually or as mini-sets or the entire set at once.
I don’t know if the large single volume book has all the goodies that the individual books have.

Buy one book, say one of the gospels, and you’ll be hooked. Fantastic series.
