Hi everyone,
I did CRHP at my church and I have to give a witness talk on New Life withChrist. I’m really struggling as I don’t know what to talk about. Anyone has any experience with this? They told me I could do a search and read other peoples witness talks but nothing comes up. Any help will be appreciated!!!

It should be your own personal journey of faith. In Protestant Christian circles it is known as one’s testimony, how you came to know and trust in the Lord.

When did you first hear about the Lord (Father, Son or Holy Spirit) and when did you follow Him into the church?

Did you fall back, what were your struggles? How has the Lord blessed you?

1 Peter 3:15 (RSVCE)

15 but in your hearts reverence Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to make a defense to any one who calls you to account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and reverence;

Speak from the heart. How did the experience impact your life?
How are you more in tune with your prayer life?
What things have taken on greater importance for you? Reading of Scripture? Daily Mass? Serving the poor? Relationships better?

Just reflect on the before, and tell how the AFTER has been different, and beneficial.

I’ve done CHRP as well and I have some tips for you.
  • Keep it as short as possible and be very concise and concrete. Also don’t be afraid to use some humor to help get people into what you have to say.
IOW, speak about how Christ has tangibly changed your life and give appropriate examples.
  • Use scriptures (NAB) to help show how Christ fulfilled His promises to make you a new creation.
  • It does not have to be super dramatic or eloquent. People will always relate to conversions of us ordinary folks who are more or less like them. Trust Our Lord to keep His promise to you from "Luke 21:14 Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand, 15 for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking[ (http://www.usccb.org/bible/luke/21#50021015-1)* that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute."
  • Finally, feel free to peruse My Testimony as an example.
Just remember to pray before and even during your turn and let the Holy spirit do His job. We can’t convert anyone, but He most definitely can convert any one. 👍

Can you recite the Apostle’s Creed with enthusiasm? Like you REALLY believe it? Not just mumbled along at the cadence of everyone else? “I” believe. Start there. The Spirit will lead you the rest of the way.

You don’t have to give a talk at all. I know CRHP can really turn up the peer pressure, but nobody can truly make you give a talk if you don’t want to.

If you’re not comfortable or don’t feel prepared, just say, “no, I would rather not.”

If they keep pressing, it says a lot more about them than it does about you.

HI everyone,
Thank you for your help and advice. I do have to give the talk because I am also the spiritual advisor and that is one of the talks I have to do. I know it needs to be my own story, so I was just looking for guidance and advice other than what is in the CRHP handbook. I realy don’t mind doing the talk at all.

I’ve been through CRHP. I was a cynic until I loved it. Honestly, read through the handbook and pray on it. Maybe spend some time in front of the Blessed Sacrament with your CRHP manual. If you’re doing this, have you been to a retreat before? Reach out to the continuation committee and see if they can hook you up with someone else who gave the NLIC talk.

Don’t worry about it. Trust the Holy Spirit with the process. Remember, this talk is for the people coming to your retreat. Pray about it and let the spirit guide you and believe that it will reach out to someone there. You might not think its all that much, but someone coming to the retreat will.
