Dearest friends,

I’m really in need to go to confession but I am physically disabled and I cannot take myself to church. I haven’t been to church in a while, and I’m in the high risk group for infections, especially coronavirus.

What should I do in this situation? Our whole family is avoiding going to church because I’m vulnerable. We are, however, watching online Mass every Sunday.

Thanks.

Contact your pastor, and ask that he visit you, hear your confession, and bring communion.

My 91 year old mother in law is isolating, and my husband cares for her. Our pastor goes once a month to hear her confession. He wears a mask, stays socially distant, but is still able to administer the sacraments.

I’m not registered in the parish because I have received baptism and confirmation abroad. So unfortunately I cannot receive those sacraments at home.

But I have made an act of perfect contrition and I am really, really hoping that this coronavirus pandemic will end soon and I will get to go to confession like other healthy parishoners.

My daughter is physically disabled and she’s been avoiding Mass, too, because of the coronavirus. But she has been to Confession. It’s outside, she’s more than 6 feet away from the priest with the screen and all. She wears a mask. She’s been ok doing that. So maybe if there’s a parish that has Confession outside, someone in your family could take you?

Of course you can. I don’t know where you’ve gotten this notion that you can’t receive the sacraments because you aren’t “registered” or because you were baptized elsewhere. Or that you cannot ask the priest closest to where you are to bring you the sacraments. This is false.

I agree with 1ke if it helps.

I received baptism and confirmation in South Africa and live in East Sussex, UK so I registered here at my local parish. I have reregistered every time I’ve moved and just told the priest/office I am moving. You might find you could do it online and certainly over the phone when you call up and ask for your priest to visit for the sacrament. Just explain your circumstances or get your family to do it for you if phone calls are difficult. God bless you.

Yes you can. A priest has an obligation to hear your confession at any reasonable time (you should ask him to anoint you at the same time). You don’t need to be “registered” with a parish before you can receive the sacraments.
