Help with John 3:13 "No one has ascended to heaven except he who has come down from heaven even the Son of man which is in heaven."

I thought Enoch and Elijah set a precedent that we can look back to in understanding Mary’s Assumption into Heaven. How is this passage to be understood?

Enoch, Elijah and Mary were taken up to heaven by the power of God. They were all assumed into heaven by Him.

Jesus is different - He ASCENDED by His OWN power and was not assumed by the power of another.

Just remember that there’s an important reason why different words are used to describe what happened in the other cases (assumption) and what happened in Our Lord’s case (ascension) - because in that respect Jesus was unique.

This is exactly right, Jesus (unlike the others) ressurected himself and in bringing himself back to life, went on to ascend, not by the power of his father but by his own power. The bible is clear, Jesus often said, not by God’s power but by his own, would he ressurect himself.

Its really clear when you analyse the words correctly.

In this verse Jesus reveals that He is present in heaven at the same time that He is also present here on earth in His incarnation. (The omnipresence of God.) These words must have given Nicodemus much to ponder in regards to just who Jesus was – far more than just a teacher who had God’s assistance as Nicodemus thought.

Reminds me of when I went off on a tangent while teaching numerator/denominator and explained the fractured nature of protestant denominationalism at the same time. Oh yeah, I was home schooling. We became Catholic shortly after that lesson… “The truth was self-evident.”
