Help with my essay

So I know this isn’t really the place to ask for this kind of help, but I’m desperate. I need help dumbing down the instructions for this essay I must write.

"Students are to select a paper topic covering a critical analysis and evaluation of issues relating to a director’s style as related his/her choices in the use of cinematography, editing, sound, acting, drama, story, writing, and or ideology. Body of the text includes a thesis, relevant examples, integration of research, conclusion, and merit of original premise.
 
Yeah I thought about that. But I didn’t know if they would take my question seriously seeing as most of the posts are about silly stuff.
 
Step 1. Pick a director.

Step 2. Pick a thesis, that is, a statement about the director’s style.

Step 3. Pick examples from the director’s work that support your thesis.

Step 4. Write it all down.

You might try some light-hearted flattery and the lure that their time will have been well-spent for change. 😃

But OK, point well-taken…how about Popular Media? Somebody there has to have some interest and expertise in your topic.

Wow, that’s some assignment!

Just Lurking gave a nice summary. I would also highlight the significance of the word “and/or”. Your teacher is giving several criterion by which you can evaluate a particular director’s body of work:
    • cinematography
    • editing
    • sound
    • acting
    • drama
    • story
    • writing
    • ideology
    You don’t have to address all of them. Indeed, depending on the length of the paper, I don’t see how you could. If it were me, I would probably pick three or four and build my paper around that.

    From the instructions, it sounds like your teacher is looking for the basic outline of any paper:
    • tell me what you’re going to say (introduction / statement of thesis)
    • say it (examples with research integrated in)
    • tell me what you said (conclusion / synopsis of why your thesis matters)
