The Phrase: Jesus addressed this parable to those who were convinced of their own righteousness and despised everyone else.
The Feeling
Anguish with moderns whose belief in personal truths trump The Truth of Ultimate Love, received from God and humbly offered back to Him and neighbor.
The Sense
Lord, You know the bad within me and my desire to do good in Your eyes. In Your love and sacrifice I am justified, not in exalting my own efforts to be holy, but in exulting the Cross which expiates my sins against You! Even with You before me, I become distracted and fall short. But I know Your mercy welcomes me to recover and keep trying. May I not despise the “despisable” but humbly seek You within all, and know that, unworthy as I am, yet You would deem to dwell in me, too.
The Act
Pray for those whose acts seem despicable.
