Hi there,

I’m not sure if I’m posting this in the right area but fingers crossed!

How do we know if God is telling us to give up praying for something specific or whether He is just telling us to pray harder?

I’ve been praying for a specific intention pretty hard over the last couple of months or so and this week, it seemed like my prayer was beginning to be answered only to have part of that taken away the very next day. Something similar happened at the beginning of praying for this specific intention, too. And the circumstances surrounding both the beginning of my prayers being answered and part of them being taken away were so out of the every day that I can’t believe they were not a result of God’s intervention.

If it had happened once, then I’d probably assume it was a sign to pray harder but I’m beginning to wonder, after happening twice, if it’s a sign to give up praying for this intention.

Does anyone have any tips on how to decide when to keep praying for a specific intention? I know that no prayer is wasted but my emotions are pretty invested in this intention and I’d be so grateful for any guidance.

Many thanks and God bless 🙂

What is it you are praying for? Just a general idea, if you prefer.

God hears and answers all our prayers. They just might not be answered in the manner that we wish.

Some of my answered prayers are the ones I prayed for once, and gave it to God, and forgot about it! I didn’t give up, but I trusted it to the Lord.

God bless you,

We never know how or when God answers our prayers. I am on the receiving side of someone’s three year novena devotion for my husband to open his heart to the truth, the Catholic faith. I am still in awe.

I have found that sometimes instead of letting answers come to me, that I have wanted something so bad, I don’t listen to the real answer but think my prayers are not being answered or I am being given negative signs by not getting the answer I desperately wanted.

God will never tell you to give up praying. He did not die for us to let you go. Praying is part of the relationship you have with him, so giving up praying is not the answer He is giving you. Patience, strength in listening are more like what he is giving you, but NEVER, EVER will he tell you to step away from Him.

Sometimes our prayers are not answered in a timely fashion, sometimes they just aren’t answered in a way we understand today. Sometimes we have to just LET HIM by giving this something up to HIM COMPLETELY and TRUST HIM to take care of it. Maybe this is what he is trying to help you understand. Some things cannot be solved the way we see them solved; he has a more complete picture of why he does something. Let go, and let him do what he needs to do. Trust Him to know how you feel about it, but also trust that he isn’t wrong on how he handles it, only you can be, in a positive way of acceptance.

Hope this helps…
