I’m eighteen years old, and I’m a senior in high school. I’m graduating in June and I really, really, REALLY want a purity ring. I’ve been wanting one for ages. Something that’s been keeping me back from getting one is that most people that I know who have had one ended up not remaining pure. Someone very close to me had one, but now she’s living with her boyfriend out of wedlock. I just don’t want to end up like that. I know you don’t NEED one to remain pure until marriage, but I just love the idea of the rings and what they stand for. Somebody else close to me told me that since I can remain pure until marriage without one, getting one now would be basically pointless. Do any of y’all have any suggestions on whether or not I should get one? Also, do any of you know where I could get a nice one? I’m a huge Disney nerd and I love the ones that say “Someday My Prince Will Come” and things like that.

Thanks for all y’all’s help! 🙂

I mean, it’s just a piece of jewelry. If you want one, buy it. A purity ring isn’t going to keep your pure, just like a wedding ring isn’t going to stop someone from cheating on their spouse. You have to make the choice to stay a virgin.

The whole thing about a fairytale love story isn’t real life. Deciding to get married should be something that is seriously discerned. It shouldn’t be about a boy sweeping you off your feet and “living happily ever after.”

It is a piece of jewerly, but it also has some meaning, and could be helpful. that is up to you to decide.

now about which one to get, i dont know your posibilities, you could get a cheap one, and getting it carved, or even without anything on it, the deal is what it means to you, so if that plain ring is a Purity ring to you, then that is what it is.

If you want a ring to remind you of what is right, get a ring rosary.

The whole purity ring thing is a silly modernist conservative fantasy. All men are sinners as are you, I and all other women.

By the way, celibacy is better than marriage.

PS, my favorite “Disney princess song” is “Let it go” in Frozen.

I would get one. It’ll help remind you of your commitment to remain pure.

Aren’t those rings kind of a protestant/evangelical thing? I’ve never heard of Catholics wearing them.

Dont see why, they could even be used by atheist if they do not desire to lose virginity till marriage. they are just reminders of something the wearer is trying to achieve.

I know little or nothing about purity rings, but I read an old thread here at CAF concerning words to engrave on the ring. The best, in my opinion, is this from 1 Corinthians 13:
Love is patient

I bought a purity ring that says: “True Love Waits” (sterling silver) when I was in 8th grade for the same reasons you desire to have one…and I’m 23 now and still proud to wear it. People tell me that it’s pointless and that it’s just a ring, but I don’t care, staying pure for my future husband is really important to me…& I’m not going to let others bother me or decide what’s best for me. Obviously they don’t understand what we believe or they would think the same. God knows the desires of my heart & He has always been there to support me through this process of waiting by keeping me safe and sheltered from bad influences anywhere. Not only do I wear this purity ring daily but pray for my future husband daily, that he is: “safe, pure, & holy for God & for me…& that I stay safe, pure, & holy for God & for him.” I really like those 3 simply words that are powerful: True Love Waits…some of my fav words of all time. Lol, anyways… do what you desire most within your heart. Don’t let others define your happiness and what makes you YOU. I may have been the only one in grade school and high school to wear a purity ring, but I found that people admitted later that they looked up to me by resisting what the crowd would’ve done. When I got to college (Marian University), I found a lot of females wearing purity rings with different sayings on it…it was kinda the norm.

I’ve always been a fan of Disney movies, but I stopped wishing for a “knight and shining armor or sweep me off my feet” love story. If I wanted to find the perfect man, I’d have to be perfect too, which is not realistic. We need God to show us the way to happiness in this lifetime. Disney movies are still awesome movies…wonderful classics, but they can never fit into one’s earthly love story…it took me awhile to figure that out. God has a perfect plan far greater than our imaginations can comprehend. I’m learning & striving to give Him the pen to my future love story (& life overall), & am still thankful & proud of myself for being a virgin staying pure for my future husband.

I hope & pray that you stay true to who you are and what you believe in. Not everyone’s going to agree with you, but it doesn’t mean they are right. God will provide for you a wonderful and pure man someday if you truly believe that He can help guide you to him. He will honor your desires by preserving you for him. It’s really cool to find someone else who cares about purity rings the way I do…I have high respect for you for sharing your viewpoint rather than keeping it inside. My 2 best female friends wear purity rings…they are in relationships with guys and haven’t lost their virginities. May God continue to bless you along this chapter of your life & beyond.

If you want one, there’s no reason why you should’nt get one. Personally, I don’t see it as a big deal. The only thing I see wrong is that some boys and men may see it as a dare rather than a sign of self-respect and determination to remain chaste. But I’m sure some would take it your way, too.
