I need some help with this.

The left side of my brain is resisting the resurrection and I need some guidance, education and reasonable points to the fact that Jesus did this. It just hasn’t clicked yet. Is there a good resource (…book, podcast, video…) that would help me out. Can any of you?

I need something that will click with the strong scientist in me. Something that will plant that seed that will eventually give me that “eureka” moment…if there is such a thing with an issue like this.

Thanks a bunch, 👍
Darren
There is lots of great material out there. Here are two short articles that make some good points. It is a good place to start.

gotquestions.org/empty-tomb.html

gotquestions.org/hallucination-theory.html

Also, philosophers Tim and Lydia Mcgrew have written an excellent article for the Blackwell Companion to Natural Theology. It is very in-depth and proves a very powerful historical argument for the Resurrection of Jesus. You can access it here: lydiamcgrew.com/Resurrectionarticlesinglefile.pdf

@Babylon: LOL…yeah, I do live in my head too much and you’re absolutely right, I should watch my tenancy to humor it. Again, it’s something more than one person has told me when it comes to faith. Working on it…absolutely. 😃

You must forgive me for all of this querying as I am naturally curious about all this, having returned to the Catholic church after a 27+ year absence. Coming back to the faith as an adult, questions start to outnumber the answers and I’m pleasantly overwhelmed with how rich my Catholic heritage is. Really what you’re seeing in me is 27 years of rationalism/logic/science meeting immature faith. “Hitting the books” is the only way I know how to learn about things, so I go with what I know for now…and you’ve all given me some great insights.

Read this by Peter Kreeft:

You cannot use the Shroud to prove the Resurrection. Its not evidence of anything. It is simply a cloth with an image which has not been declared authentic by the Church.
The Church has not given its word on it however you can use it to help support your case for the resurrection. We are helping this individual to understand the resurrection better . You on that page?

Whether a person believes the Shroud is genuine or not is totally irrelevant. That does not constitute evidence. You cannot use the Shroud as evidence of anything. Its a ridiculous position to take. An unauthenticated piece of cloth cannot be used to support the Resurrection and it is most definitely not required either.

Yes it can . You discredit it because of the Carbon testing that was not accurate in its testing . You can use it to help support your argument of the resurrection .Of course it cannot stand alone as the main point supporting the resurrection but it is certainly a foot in the right direction . Oh and by the way, opinion is opinion and fact is fact . Know the difference . (ridiculous position )

I am not discrediting the Shroud. I am being objective while you are being subjective and emotional about it. You are entitled to believe it is genuine. I have no beef with that. However, the FACT is that the Shroud is not evidence of anything because nobody can prove it is genuine or not. That in itself means it cannot be put forward as evidence. It is NOT evidence and cannot support anything…

If it was brought into a court of law and their was a case built for it( as there has been in studies in investigation) it could be proved valid . Unless you have been living under a rock you may have seen clips on youtube about it and about the research done on it .Now I am not emotional about it.It almost seems that you are an agnostic or anti catholic of some kind ,insistent that you are correct on this matter, when it is your opinion that could be proved wrong . As I said before , this cannot stand alone as the sole proof of the resurrection but it can in fact point you in the right direction and be used as part of your argument for it .

So, I’d like to thank everyone for all of the links and suggestions.

I’ve been reading and thinking about this since the first post and you know what…it’s VERY scary how much historical evidence there is regarding this event. I think I want to read NT Wright’s book, but from what I’ve read so far this is pretty much a slam dunk in my mind.

Now…now I need to process all of this. I had no idea of the magnitude of the case for this and wasn’t expecting it. Wow…

I demand a public apology for your personal attack on me which incidentally is against forum rules. I am a very devout Catholic who is very well aware that the Church has NOT declared the Shroud to be genuine and neither has science proved it to be genuine.
The Shroud not only cannot stand alone as evidence for the Resurrection but it cannot even provide support for the Resurrection.

I have reported your personal attack on me to the moderators.

You will get nothing . If you are a true Catholic you would realize that we are on the same team and you should have argued this issue in private message , rather then sounding arrogant and condescending in your attempt of correction .I have done nothing wrong . you wanted the last word it seems and when I did not give it to you ,then you felt insulted . . The Shroud as I stated before cannot stand alone as support for the resurrection but can be used to support it along with other points . Lighten up .

And another thing, In no way was that a personal attack . I read the rules too . Saying that you are either an Atheist or Protestant or whatever i said, is not a personal attack . I was making an observation and your messages to me were an indication that you were one of them . I wasn’t calling you names .

You called lust ignorant I wonder, will he report you for breaking forum rules ? And he is not even Catholic so think on it
