I’ve been recently very scared of hell and death because I think God has been trying to tell me his plan for me doesn’t involve living to an old age. Today I went to confession, and felt good afterwards. Later, I started watching some YouTube videos saying how man cannot forgive sins, and how the only way to get into heaven is by believing in Jesus and The Ressurection. What’s the point of even going to confession then? If you have mortal sin, but still have faith that Jesus will save you, why even bother confessing? I’m also very terrified of the church being secretly leading people to hell and being a false religion. I’m Roman Catholic by the way. So what’s the deal? Do I just trust in Jesus to forgive my sins and still do good works? Is believing that a priest can forgive my sins heresy? I’m so scared of going to hell or doing something to upset God, even though the Bible says faith is enough to receive eternal life. I’m 15 so any reassurance and advice would be a great help for me. Thank you.

You are young and very impressionable.

Christ breathed on the apostles and said, what sins you forgive will be forgiven, and what you keep shall be kept.

The producer of that video probably lacks apostic succession and thus has to come up with a way to exclude the forgiveness of sins coming through this way.

As a Catholic, you will likely come across many different lies and myths about the Faith and Church. Best to pay them no heed or to do a lot of study on what is actually true.

Pray and do not worry.

Did he actually say that? Or would I need to buy “City of God” to find that quote.

The only quote I can find from St. Augustine about repentance atm is “God has promised forgiveness to your repentance, but He has not promised tomorrow to your procrastination.”

You need to stop watching Youtube videos by Protestant apologists. You lack the knowledge needed to refute their falsehoods.

Jesus himself gave the Apostles the power to absolve sins at the end of John’s Gospel. It is those who believe they have no need of confession whose souls are in peril.
