I don’t know if I sinned during confession! The priest was giving me my penance and he mentioned Psalm 23 and I said yes but I didn’t actually know it. I didn’t mean any harm in doing it, I just kinda did it without thinking. But during or shortly after confession I realized what I did and feel bad. Help!

If it was anything, it was venial. Do your penance and make an act of love. You’ll be fine.

No I found it, it was my reply was lying because I did not know the psalm at the time.

Advice for the scrupulous Moral Theology
All good points. On the forums here, another good piece of advice for the scrupulous considering posting their inquiries about sins is simply: don’t. One should seek the counsel of a single, regular confessor and follow his guidance.

Yeah I have OCD but I wasn’t quite sure if it was my OCD acting up or if my conscience was kicking in

I didn’t say anything about OCD; I simply reiterated advice that’s been posted here ad nauseum — scrupulous people shouldn’t be asking these questions online. And responsible people shouldn’t give any other answer, in my opinion.

I understand where you are coming from I was just seeking advice from the community on effective ways to deal with scruples and using my confession as a prime example. Sorry if that annoys you or I wasn’t clear enough.

Not annoying me, but you aren’t helping yourself here. You’re making it potentially worse. Your priest is the only one person for these discussions if you’re truly scrupulous.

As I posted earlier today:

From Jimmyakin.com :. 'The standard counsel for scrupulous people is to assume the sin was not mortal unless the opposite is manifestly evident.’

I’ve heard this put another way:. ’ When in doubt it doesn’t count!’ (from Trent Beattie’s book ‘Scruples and Sainthood’).

And a good priest recently told me that ‘the doubt is always in your favor.’

Hey starting 0/, are you aware of the 10 commandments for the scrupulous?
