I’m working on the wording for our wedding invitations, and this is what I have. Is there anything that might make the wording more Catholic?

Looks pretty good.

Perhaps change marriage to wedding.

Or instead put “Nuptial Mass” I’m not sure…

You might want to add:
Mr. RoseMeg451 2be
son of Mr. Mrs. In laws

so in laws feel good. Also practically, the guests from his side would recognize the groom, especially if the don’t know him well, but know his parents better…

I agree with having both sets of parents names.

You might consider changing marriage to

“uniting in Holy Matrimony” or something similar

if there is to be a nuptial Mass that should be mentioned so Catholics can be prepared to receive communion

Here is the proper wording and format for a Nuptial Mass:

Mr. and Mrs. ABC

request the honour of your presence

at the Nuptial Mass uniting their daughter

Mary Francis

and

Mr. Fiance

in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony

Sunday, the twenty-second of December

Two thousand and eight

at nine o’clock in the morning

Saint Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church

City,State

My invitation had: “With Joy and Blessings” before the rest of the wording. Just an idea for adding a more personal touch. And we used the traditional wording 1ke posted above.

No advice, just congratulations on your upcoming wedding!!!

That’s exactly the way ours was worded back in 1990 (well, aside from the other details).

Congrats to the OP on your upcoming nuptials! May God’s blessings be on you that special day and always.

I would add "son of Mr. & Mrs. Inlaws

This wording is so great!

Missing the “In the year of Our Lord” though

I had to go back through my album to see how we worded our invites. Our situation was a little different because I came from parents who had divorced and remarried, and I didn’t want to leave anyone out. 🙂

Desiring God’s will for their lives
and believing that includes each other

R.M
Together with their parents

address

Might be kind of wordy, but then again, so am I:D

1ke’s wording right on the money.Miss Manners says so. “Year of Our Lord” is not in the Painfully Proper Wedding, nor Excruciantianly Correct Behavior.

My mother tried to tack on “Believing Marriage Ordained of God” to the beginning of several of our wedding invitations. Every one of those weddings ended in divorce.

Just something to consider: are the majority of your guests Catholic? I initially had our wording with the whole deal, “the sacrament of holy matrimony, nuptial mass”, etc and my FH was like, I don’t know if I know what all that means!" and he’s a convert so a large portion of our guests are Protestant. So I changed it to just, “your presence is requested at the marriage of _____ and ______”

Good luck! I have to MAIL mine very soon :bigyikes: I like having them all safe in a box in my office! 😛

If there will be a Mass, it needs to be on the invitation. Catholics need to know to come disposed for Communion-- ie, one hour fast.

The wording you propose above signals that there will be no Mass and only a Marriage Rite.

Ouch. But I doubt very much it was the wording on the invitation that did it.

I would add "son of Mr. & Mrs. Inlaws
How do you add the in-laws to the wording when you are using the wording
'request the honour of your presence at the Nuptial Mass uniting their dauther
Nancy Ann to James Smith

in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony

This has been keeping me up all night

If both sets of parents are sponsoring the wedding, their names go under the bride’s parents, and it comes out

Dr. and Mrs. Wilbur Smith
and
Mr. and Mrs. Inlaws Tobe

request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their children

Nancy Ann
and
James Patrick

then just go on from there

If it’s a more traditional wedding, then go for

Dr. and Mrs. Wilbur Smith
request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of their daughter
Nancy Ann
to
Mr. James Patrick Tobe
son of Mr.and Mrs. Inlaws Tobe

then just go from there…

My husband and I are hosting the wedding and My daughter wants to add her finace parents names as of courtesy.

So if the invitation reads

Mr. and Mrs. Kirklan
request the honor of your presence
at the Nuptial Mass uniting their daughter

Nancy Anne and John Smith

in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony

where do we add
son of Mr. and Mrs. Smith
