Help?

I don’t know where to post this, so I’ll put it here for now. I have a kind of strange question. I remember, as a child, going to a “grotto.” It was an outdoor place that had alot of stuff. Flowers and little buildings and gnome statues and the like. As far as I can remember it was in the eastern part of the country. Possibly North or South Carolina. Does anyone know about a place like this?

Emmittsburg MD where St. Elizabeth Seton founded her convents has a lovely grotto where people go to pray and meditate. I don’t remember hearing of any miracles from the waters there but I do remember it being very peaceful.

I have been to a few grottos. There is one on or near Notre Dame campus (I think on), and one on the grounds of my high school campus Mt Assisi Academy in Lemont IL. At the high school there is a gully by a creek that has the stations of the cross in stone, also, on an ajoining campus of a monestary, the walking rosary and the stations of the cross around a small pond with an island, little houses, plantings etc.

I have also been to a commercial grotto up in IL.

I live in S carolina now, but haven’t heard of any specifically Catholic grottos. We have a monestary, and they might have one, I know they take visitors. I will look into it and see if I can get you any information.

There is a grotto on the campus of Belmont Abbey College outside Charlotte, NC. It is a beautiful grotto on a beautiful campus.

Greetings! If you ever get a chance, you REALLY need to visit the Grotto of the Redemption in West Bend, Iowa. It is AMAZING! It is the work of just two men, the priest Fr. Dobberstein and his helper Matt Szerensce. It was done without planning, simply by cementing one stone to another.

The one I’m thinking of wasn’t, as far as I can remember, not of a religious type thing. I think there were even “gnomes” as part of it. But that has been so long ago, I’m not sure. I just mostly remember going there. My mom said there was one in NC, she doesn’t remember the name of it, but said it was the one we went to. Pathetic, huh?

I talked with my mom and asked her about this. She said that she thought that the places was at least built by monks, but wasn’t sure. And she said that after this much time had past, they may be closed. Sorry to be a bother, but this is getten to me. I’m not so good at dealing with frustration.

At Belmont Abbey College they have monks.

We have a beautiful little place called “Ave Maria Grotto” here in North Alabama. The monks built the grotto and trail around it. There are hundreds of little buildings, some gnomes, and much, much more.

Yipee! That sure sounds like it. Did we swing as low as Alabama? We probably did. I had stumbled across that website, but was uncertain about it. That site showed very few pictures. I’ll mention it to mom next time I talk to her. Maybe I can talk her into a road trip someday soon.
