Thank you all who have prayed for my intentions from previous posts. Please pray for me and for all involved in this situation:
My girlfriend, a non-Catholic to whom I have been open about the Catholic faith, answering her questions and instructing her as to the teachings of the Church and to the scriptural evidence for such teachings, was pressed, by her own mother, to defend the Church. My girlfriend has neither experience in apologetics nor debate, so her mom veritably crushed her. My girlfriend stated that she had no objection to the Catholic teachings other than her not understanding fully or being confused about certain topics such as the rather timely Assumption of Mary. Her mom had the opportunity to confront me for four hours last night on the road to a comedian’s show. She did not, but instead confronted her daughter who is not herself a Catholic. Her attack was ended with her mom saying that her daughter (my girlfriend) has been open to Catholic teaching by the virtue of our relationship and that she (her mother) is worried her mother might convert. This statement brought great doubt into my girlfriend’s mind. I have told my girlfriend to let me go to her house with these conditions: If her mother is in a bad mood, let her give her arguments to me, without my response unless a direct question is asked. If she is in a good mood, let us sit down and talk, as I believe her mother has been sorely misinformed.
