Hey guys,
This past Wednesday, we had Mass at my school. I did not receive, as I thought I had violated the Communion Fast (turns out I didn’t, but I wasn’t sure at the time). As we were coming out of the chapel, I shook hands with the priest. For some reason, I could not convince myself that he would have cleaned his hands after handling the Eucharist. However, I did not want to go to the restroom (or anywhere else that would be private) and lick my hands clean (the only way I could think of that would not disrespect/desecrate any particles that might have gotten on me) because I was afraid that it would put me in mortal sin, so I did nothing and finished the school day. On the bus, I decided to lick my hands, since I would be out of Communion fast violation danger.

I guess what I’m trying to ask is, am I being paranoid/scrupulous or am I in sin?

Thanks!

Honey, your scrupulosity is getting way, way out of control. Please talk to your priest ASAP.

Are you serious, or are you trolling?
I am going to be charitable and believe in good faith that they are honestly worried. I believe OP that yes, you are being scrupulous. Anything you would have done, would not have been intentionally done. From what I am told, and am learning myself (I’ve got some scruples that like to shake themselves around a bit) in order for something to be mortal, it must meet three specific requirements. Without one or more of them, it is not mortal. You did not intend on shaking the priests hand so that you might purposefully desecrate any particles.

I agree with baltobetsy, please speak with with your priest. The sooner the better.

:hug1:

You need to see a priest for sure. Make sure you explain this same issue, without taking too much time, and ask the priest for advice.

The priest may disappoint you with a strongly worded response. Then again, you never know.

I was completely serious.

Thank you everyone! I will see about talking to my pastor…

Based on this and your many other posts, I do believe you have a serious scrupulosity issue and you need to get professional help for it from your priest.

I am not diagnosing you or anything, but this sounds like more than a religious scrupulosity problem. It sounds more like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, which often requires therapy and medication. By all means, talk with your priest, but he may recommend you see a counselor. Best of luck to you and remember the words in the mass when you are agonizing over something- “Protect us from all anxiety…” and use them like a prayer when you are troubled. 🙂
